Southern Athletics Annual Report 2013-2014

Thank You, Jaguar Nation!

Will Broussard

On behalf of 335 student-athletes and 11 head coaches who represent Southern University proudly in 15 NCAA Division I sports, I want to say thank you to each and every financial supporter—from our over 6,000 season book holders, to our anchor corporate sponsors. In 2013-14, the cost for Southern University Athletics to provide athletic scholarships topped $2.2 million—approximately 25% of the total operating budget. As the cost of higher education increases—including books, meals, and tuition costs—so does the cost of providing these opportunities.

Your support is critical to the future of Jaguar Athletics and to the young men and women who want to one day become Southernites, and that is why your support is so critical.

Whether you are a season book holder, small business supporter, corporate sponsor, parent or die-hard fan, we appreciate your support.  Increased underwriting of scholarship funding will allow the athletic department to reduce the its financial burdens and free up funding for projects that will improve facilities, enhance the student-athlete experience, and upgrade the fan experience for those attending athletic events. This is good for Southern University and can be a boon for Baton Rouge's economy!

We will continue to offer exciting opportunities for local individuals, businesses, and corporations to participate and advertise for SU athletic events with generously discounted pricing that can, in turn, provide exciting benefits for employees and clients and fun, family-friendly outings.  This will also provide us with a terrific opportunity to establish relationships with local citizens and businesses and grow the university's identity and share its brand!

The following report will detail the fundraising successes we experienced in 2013-14 and show Jaguar fans exactly what their investment in SU student-athletes produced this very exciting year.

What follows is a summary of this past fiscal year's fundraising activity, ways to support Southern Athletics in 2014-15, and some departmental highlights.  As always, if you have questions, if you are interested in making a donation, or setting up a meeting to discuss further, please, contact me by any of the means listed below. Thank you for your support, and Go Jags!
