Softball inks two signees for 2014 class

The Southern University softball team announced the signing of two recruits last Wednesday.
 
Jamani' Greer and Kiara Suttles will be the two newest editions to the Lady Jaguars softball team in 2014.
 
“These were two great gets for our program here at Southern and the first two pieces of the puzzle for our turning the tide for program in the immediate future.” said head coach Lee Dobbins. “Both have been well coached and played for one or the top travel ball organizations in the country.”
 
Greer, a Chattanooga, Tenn. native plays third base and bolsters an impressinve resume in her young career. Among being named softball-all district, and winning the best offense award, Greer has hit approximately 30 homeruns in her softball career and played with one of the top elite softball travel teams, the Tennessee Fury, who finished 25th in the nation at the 16U ASA Nationals in Sunnyvale, CA this past summer.
 
“Jamani' is a great player on the left corner of the infield with great footwork and range and a good arm. We also expect her to be a great presence at the plate on the offensive side of the ball with unlimited power potential in the future.” said Dobbins.
 
Suttles, a native of Hixson, Tenn., ended her junior year with a batting average of .479, 17 regular season homeruns and over 35 pickoffs. She received the best offense award her sophomore year of high school and MVP her junior year. She also traveled with the Tennesse Fury, finishing 25th in the nation in the summer of 2013
 
“I would love to thank all of my coaches that made me who I am today and started with me from the time I was very young, but most importantly I thank my parents, Chad and Kim Suttles. They've taught me a lot and helped me with anything I need and I really thank and appreciate all they have done.” said Suttles.
                                                                                                    
Suttles is not only looking forward to exceling on the softball field, but also looks forward to continuing her academic excellence as a Jaguar.
 
“My main achievements academically and athletically is growing as I go to the next stage.” said Suttles. “Athletics come easy to me, but I am a student-athlete first. I am a high average student, but I work very hard.
 
By playing for one of the top travel teams in the nation, both ladies have the big game and national experience that will assist the Jaguars in not only competing in the SWAC but both regionally and nationally.
