Southern (22-11, 8-4 SWAC) and Texas Southern (19-9, 8-4) enter the weekend tied for second place in the SWAC Western Division, raising the stakes for an important early-April matchup.

The Lady Jaguars carry strong momentum into the series after a 5-0 week that featured a doubleheader sweep of Xavier of Louisiana (2-1, 6-2) and a three-game sweep of Alcorn (7-0, 9-4, 10-7).

That performance earned Abigail Mitchell and Aaliyah Zabala SWAC weekly honors, with Mitchell named Hitter of the Week and Zabala tabbed Pitcher of the Week.

Mitchell was electric at the plate, hitting .615 with a double, triple, three home runs, nine RBIs, and four stolen bases. She led the conference for the week in home runs, RBIs, slugging percentage (1.538), stolen bases, and total bases (20). She also ranked second in runs scored (7), third in hits, fifth in batting average, and sixth in on-base percentage, homering in three consecutive games.

Zabala was dominant in the circle, tossing 11.1 scoreless innings across two appearances while allowing just four hits and striking out 10. In the series finale against Alcorn, she entered in the third inning and held the Braves scoreless to set the stage for Southern's comeback victory.

Ava Wallace, Jaicee Massey, and Ariel Burton also delivered standout performances, each batting over .400 for the week and combining for 13 hits, two triples, three home runs, and eight RBIs.
Wallace recorded six hits in five games, including two triples. She currently ranks fifth nationally with five triples this season and added eight stolen bases during the week.

Massey, typically known for her slap-hitting approach, showed power at the plate by going 4-for-9 with her first career home run and scoring three runs in Southern's comeback win in the series finale.

Burton provided the go-ahead home run in the sixth inning of that game and finished the Alcorn series hitting .429 with two home runs and four RBIs.

In the circle, Chakirrious Parker picked up wins against Xavier and Alcorn, logging 12.1 innings. She allowed just one earned run in 5.1 innings against the Gold Nuggets and threw only the second complete game of her career against Alcorn, further solidifying her role in Southern's pitching rotation.
