The Southern University Women's Volleyball team joined with representatives from Mayor-President Kip Holden's office, Mid City Redevelopment Alliance, Southern University Ag Center, and members of the Scotlandville Business Association to landscape a portion of Swan Avenue as part of Mayor Holden's Love Your Block program.
The Scotlandville Business Association, led by William Jones, U.S. Army retiree, received funding to purchase mulch and flowers to enhance the Swan Avenue entrance to Southern University and A&M College.
The Love Your Block program was developed as part of Baton Rouge Proud, the Mayor's high-impact service plan that aims to increase volunteerism and target volunteers to address the city's greatest needs.
Sponsored by the Home Depot Foundation and ExxonMobil Corporation, the new program encourages neighbors to work together to flight blight and make their block a better place to live, work and play.
