Baton Rouge -- Southern volleyball ended its tumultuous 2012 regular season with a 3-0 win against Alcorn Sate Monday night at Cliford Seymour Gym.
The Lady Jaguars (4-23) were in control a majority of the match leading by as many as 12 points in the second and third sets.
Jacquia Bell's 11 kills helped propell Southern to the win and snapped its four-game losing skid. Amber Shelby was also a major contributor adding 10 kills.
Shaquanda Hollis led Alcorn (1-27) with eleven kills and nine digs.
Despite a disappointing win-loss record, the future remains bright as Southern looks to return most of it 2012 roster comprised of junior and sophomores.
"Well, our core is still here," said head coach Nathaniel Denu.
"We had some injured players that will return next season that will make our team stonger. As for now, we focus on Jackson State in the SWAC Tournament."
Southern, having claimed the west No. 4 seed by virtue of a 3-0 win over Grambling, prepare its first round match on Saturday, Nov. 17 in the 2012 SWAC tournament against defending champion Jackson State in Jackson, Miss.
