Southern University's Tiffany Foster scored 20 points, but it was not enough to hold off the Grambling State Tigers, as they defeated SU 48-43 on Saturday.
The first half started methodically slow as the game went scoreless until a Grambling Aricia Mitchell found Keniqua Wyche for a three-point basket to give the Lady Tigers the lead with 14:33 remaining in the half.
The two teams would go through four ties and five lead changes before Southern pulled away for a 25-22 lead at the half.
In the first half Grambling shot 7-of-19 (36.8-percent) from the field while the Lady Jags where 8-of-21 (38.1-percent). The Lady Tigers held a slight rebound edge 14-13.
The second half would feature three ties before the Lady Tigers edged ahead 38-36 on two Whitney Brown free throws with 10:07 remaining. Grambling would maintain the lead for the duration of the half pulling away by as much as six (44-38) at the 6:48 mark.
Grambling (6-8, 2-1) was led by Rachele Dobbins' 10 points and seven rebounds. Brown and Secrett Anderson added six points each, while Mitchell and Wyche had five points apiece.
Tiffany Foster recorded a game high 20 points with seven rebounds to lead Southern. Jamie Floyd had six points and eight rebounds.
