HOUSTON, TX — The Southern University Jaguars will head west to Houston for a major early-season test against the Houston Cougars on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2026, at HDECU Stadium.
The match-up gives Southern an opportunity to measure itself against an FBS opponent while taking the Jaguars into one of the region's biggest recruiting and alumni markets.
For Southern, the trip to Houston will be about more than simply stepping onto a bigger stage. The Jaguars will look to establish themselves early, avoid costly mistakes and stay within striking distance as the game progresses. Houston will present challenges on both sides of the football. Playing inside HDECU Stadium gives the Cougars the home-field advantage, and Southern will need to handle the environment while remaining disciplined in all three phases.
Keys for Southern
One of the biggest priorities for the Jaguars will be controlling the football. Sustained drives can help Southern keep Houston's offense on the sideline and prevent the Cougars from dictating the pace of the game.
