BATON ROUGE, LA — Southern University head baseball coach Chris Crenshaw added another milestone to his coaching career Friday night as the Jaguars defeated Alabama A&M 12-7, giving Crenshaw his 100th Southwestern Athletic Conference victory.
The achievement comes during Crenshaw's sixth season at the helm of one of the most tradition-rich programs in HBCU baseball. A former Jaguars pitcher who played under legendary former head coach Roger Cador, Crenshaw has continued Southern's legacy of success while establishing his own identity as leader of the program.
Southern's offense delivered in a big way during the milestone victory, using timely hitting and aggressive play throughout the night to secure the conference win. The Jaguars built momentum early and continued to apply pressure offensively to pull away from Alabama A&M in the series-opening match-up.
Crenshaw, a Southern Baseball alumnus and former standout on the mound, returned to back to the Bluff with the responsibility of sustaining a program long recognized as one of the premier brands in Black college baseball. Since taking over, he has helped the Jaguars remain competitive in the SWAC while mentoring a new generation of student-athletes both on and off the field.
Under Crenshaw's leadership, Southern has continued to contend for conference championships and postseason opportunities, maintaining the standard established during Roger Cador's historic tenure. Cador, helped shape Southern into a nationally respected program and served as a mentor to Crenshaw during his playing days.
Friday's victory represented more than just another conference win for the Jaguars. It served as a reflection of Crenshaw's steady leadership, commitment to the program, and dedication to preserving Southern's proud baseball tradition.
Reaching 100 conference victories in just six seasons further highlights the consistency the Jaguars have displayed under Crenshaw's direction and underscores the continued strength of the program within the SWAC.
