BATON ROUGE, LA — Southern University second baseman KJ White Jr. continues to cement his place among the nation's elite after being named a semifinalist for the 2026 Dick Howser Trophy presented by The Game Headwear, one of the most prestigious honors in college baseball.
White's selection places him among 48 standout players across NCAA Division I baseball recognized for excellence on the field, leadership, character and courage — the same qualities that defined the legacy of former Florida State great and Major League manager Dick Howser.
Representing Southern University and the Southwestern Athletic Conference on the national stage, White's inclusion on the semifinalist list marks another milestone in a remarkable season that has seen him emerge as one of the most dynamic two-way threats in college baseball. His steady defensive presence at second base, explosive offensive production and leadership qualities have helped elevate the Jaguars throughout the 2026 campaign.
White joins an accomplished group of semifinalists from powerhouse programs across the country, including players from UCLA, Texas, Georgia Tech, Texas A&M and Georgia. He is also one of only a select few representatives from mid-major and HBCU programs recognized by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and the Dick Howser Trophy Committee.
The Dick Howser Trophy has long been regarded as college baseball's equivalent to the Heisman Trophy, honoring not only elite performance but also integrity and leadership. Previous winners include some of baseball's most recognizable names, such as Buster Posey, Stephen Strasburg, Paul Skenes and Charlie Condon.
According to the Dick Howser Trophy Committee, finalists for the 2026 award will be announced on Thursday, June 4, with the winner revealed during a special presentation ahead of the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska.
For White, the honor is another reflection of both his individual growth and Southern University's continued rise on the national baseball scene. As the Jaguars continue their postseason pursuit, White's recognition serves as a reminder that the nation is taking notice of what is happening on the diamond in Baton Rouge.
From clutch performances to consistent leadership, KJ White Jr. has represented Southern University with pride all season long — and now, he stands among the very best players in college baseball.
