EUGENE, Ore. — Tashina Alase's historic season came to a close Saturday evening in the women's 100-meter hurdles final at the NCAA Outdoor Championships at Hayward Field.
Alase broke cleanly from the blocks and was stride-for-stride early with Oregon's Aaliyah McCormick and Kentucky's Emmi Scales. A slight hesitation at the sixth hurdle disrupted her rhythm and cost valuable momentum, and she crossed the line in 13.18 seconds to place eighth in the nation.
The senior capped one of the most accomplished seasons in Southern track and field history. She became the first Southern woman to reach the NCAA Outdoor Championships since 1994 and the first Jaguar, male or female, to compete in both the NCAA Indoor and NCAA Outdoor Championships in the same season.
Alase will have an opportunity to return next season due to her injury last year as the school-record holder in both the 60-meter hurdles and 100-meter hurdles.
