BATON ROUGE, La. — Southern University returns to the track Saturday to compete in the 2026 Alumni Gold hosted by Louisiana State University at Bernie Moore Stadium, facing one of the most competitive fields of the outdoor season.
The meet annually draws a mix of SEC programs, regional opponents and professional athletes, providing the Jaguars and Lady Jaguars a high-level opportunity as the team continues preparing for the championship portion of the schedule.
Southern opens the day in the throws as
Layla Spann-McDonald, Ayanna Hunt and
Ariyonna Edmond compete in the women's hammer throw at 10 a.m. Edmond later returns in the shot put. On the men's side,
Michael Fulton will represent the Jaguars in the shot put, while
Everett Alberty competes in the javelin.
On the track,
Tashina Alase leads a busy sprint and hurdle group. She is scheduled to compete in the 4x100-meter relay, the 100-meter hurdles and the 200-meter dash. Alase will join Rondisa Williams,
Taylor Hankton and
T'La Dewitt on the relay as the Lady Jaguars line up against LSU, Memphis, Louisiana Tech and others in one of the meet's featured events.
Williams will also run the 100 and 200 meters, while Dewitt and Hankton are entered in the 200. Hankton will double back later in the day in the 400-meter hurdles. In the hurdles, Alase faces a strong field that includes competitors from LSU, Vanderbilt and Memphis.
Southern's men's sprint group will be featured in the 4x100 relay as
Omari Dupas, Christon Washington,
Austin Willis and
Kaden Lewis take the track at 12:40 p.m. Dupas and Lewis are also entered in the 100-meter dash, while Washington returns in the 110-meter hurdles.
In the field events,
Herman Batiste,
Reginald King and
Koi Wedderburn will compete in the men's long jump, with King also entered in the triple jump. On the women's side,
Azariah Foster,
Sincere Wilson and
Peyton Funderburk will represent Southern in the long jump.
Sahnya Lathon is entered in the women's high jump, while
Roman Smith, Batiste and
Keith Fowler compete in the men's high jump.
Marcus Delcy and
Keeton Johnson round out Southern's entries on the track in the men's 800-meter run.
