Southern Downs Jackson State 64–51, Advances to SWAC Semifinals for Second Straight Year

ATLANTA, GA -- In the quarterfinal round of the 2026 SWAC Women's Basketball Tournament powered by Buick, the Southern Jaguars women's basketball delivered a dominant defensive performance to eliminate the Jackson State Tigers women's basketball 64–51, advancing to the semifinals for the second consecutive year.

Southern set the tone immediately, racing out to an 18-7 first-quarter lead and never trailing in the contest. The Jaguars tightened the screws defensively in the second quarter, holding Jackson State to just nine points while extending the advantage to 38-16 at the half.

Jackson State mounted its best push in the third quarter with 20 points, but Southern's balanced scoring and bench production kept the Tigers at bay. The Jaguars controlled the pace down the stretch and closed the game out comfortably to secure the 13-point victory and a spot in the semifinals.
