Alase Set for NCAA Indoor Championships

BATON ROUGE, La. — Southern's Tashina Alase is set to compete in the 60-meter hurdles at the NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships on March 13 at 6:45 p.m. CT inside Randal Tyson Track Center on the campus of the University of Arkansas.

Alase has delivered a historic indoor campaign for the Jaguars. The Minnesota native broke the school record in the 60-meter hurdles in three consecutive meets, highlighted by a blazing 8.04 in the preliminaries at the Southwestern Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships. She returned in the finals to capture gold with a meet-record time of 8.17.

Her preliminary mark of 8.04 is tied for 11th nationally this season, and she enters the championship field as the only non–Power 4 athlete to qualify in the event. Alase becomes the first Southern athlete to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships since Brian Johnson won the long jump national title in 2003, and the first Lady Jaguar to reach the meet since Erica Burrell placed fourth in the 60 meters in 2000.

In four 60-meter hurdle appearances this season, Alase has recorded three podium finishes, including a conference title, solidifying her place among the nation's elite as she prepares to represent Southern on the sport's biggest indoor stage.

The top eight finishers in Friday's preliminary round will advance to the finals scheduled for Saturday at 5:50 p.m. CT.
