BATON ROUGE, La. — Southern University's indoor track and field teams travel to Birmingham this weekend for a pair of meets at the Birmingham CrossPlex, opening competition Friday at the UAB Green and Gold Invitational before returning Saturday for the UAB Invite.

The Jaguars will compete across sprints, hurdles, middle distance and distance events over the two-day stretch as Southern continues building toward the postseason.

Friday's Green and Gold Invitational will feature events in the 60 meters, 60-meter hurdles, 400 meters and mile. On the women's side, Southern will be represented in the sprints by
Tashina Alase,
Kendall Cook and
Jayla Franklin, while Alase,
Taylor Hankton and
Demetria Harris are slated to compete in the 60-meter hurdles.
T'La Dewitt, Hankton and
London Harden will take on the 400 meters, with
Doreen Onchangu and
Rayah Arnold entered in the mile.

The men's squad will be led in the 60 meters by
Omari Dupas and
Kaden Lewis, with Christon Washington and
Herman Batiste competing in the 60-meter hurdles.
Darryl Washington,
Ronald Johnson and
Larry Paul III will represent Southern in the 400 meters, while
Keeton Johnson and
Bryce Campbell are set for the mile.

Action continues Saturday at the UAB Invite, where the Jaguars will again compete in the mile along with the 400 meters, 600 meters and hurdle events. Southern's distance runners will also take part in the 5,000 meters, gaining valuable experience in longer races as the indoor season progresses.

Both meets will be held at the Birmingham CrossPlex, giving Southern an opportunity to compete on the same track that will host the Southwestern Athletic Conference Championships later this season.
