Late Rally Lifts Southern Past Morehead State, 10–8, Setting Up Sweep Opportunity

BATON ROUGE, LA — The Jaguars continued their winning ways Saturday night, outlasting Morehead State 10–8 at Lee-Hines Field to secure the series win and set up a chance for a sweep on Sunday afternoon.

Southern collected 14 hits and answered every challenge in a back-and-forth contest that featured three lead changes and an 8–8 tie entering the bottom of the seventh inning. That's when the Jaguars delivered the decisive blow.

After singles by Kenyon Hughes and pinch-hitter Glenn Green III, Omari Johnson came on to pinch run and swiped second base to put two runners in scoring position. Jaylon Lucky followed with a clutch two-run single up the middle, scoring both runners and giving Southern a 10–8 advantage it would not relinquish.

The Jaguars jumped on the board early in the second inning when Ryan Hunter tripled to right-center to score Lucky. After Morehead State surged ahead with four runs over the third and fourth innings, Southern responded with a three-run fourth to tie the game at 4–4, highlighted by an RBI single from Kennedy Drexler and a hit-by-pitch RBI from Beny Bikar Jr..

Southern's offense stayed relentless in the fifth inning. Xavier Bradley launched a solo home run, while KJ White delivered a two-run single and Drexler added another RBI base hit to give the Jaguars an 8–6 lead. Morehead State tied the game again in the seventh on a two-run homer, setting the stage for Southern's late heroics.

On the mound, Jayden Lawrence earned the win in relief, striking out four over 2.1 innings, while Caleb Ellis closed the door with two scoreless frames and four strikeouts to earn the save.

Lucky finished the night with two hits and two RBIs, while Hunter went 3-for-4 with a triple, an RBI, and two runs scored. Bradley added two hits and a home run as part of Southern's balanced attack.

Southern will look to complete the series sweep on Sunday afternoon, with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. at Lee-Hines Field.
