BATON ROUGE, La. — Southern University's men's and women's track and field teams head into the 2026 Southwestern Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship on Feb. 21–22 at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
The Jaguars will lean on their sprint corps to set the tone. On the men's side, junior
Kaden Lewis enters the 60-meter dash with a season-best 6.86, closely followed by sophomore
Omari Dupas at 6.89. Both are expected to be factors again in the 200 meters, where Dupas has posted a 22.37.
For the women,
Tashina Alase has been the catalyst in the short sprints, leading the team in the 60m (7.54) and 200m (24.40), while
Rondisia Williams (7.59) and
Kendall Cook (7.72) add depth and scoring potential. Alase will also double in the 60m hurdles, carrying an 8.08 into the championship.
In the 400 meters,
Darryl Washington (48.39) and
Ronald Johnson (49.82) guide the men's group, while
T'La Dewitt (57.05) and
Taylor Hankton (57.12) headline a tightly packed women's unit capable of key points.
Southern's middle-distance group adds another layer of strength.
Marcus Delcy (1:53.65) and freshman
Keeton Johnson (1:53.80) pace the men's 800 meters, with Johnson also slated to compete in the mile after clocking 4:30.36 this season. On the women's side,
London Harden (2:21.66) and Quenteria Brits (2:22.18) bring consistency to the 800m, while
Doreen Onchangu enters the 3000m (11:14.55) and 5000m aiming to anchor the distance scoring.
Both distance relay teams are positioned to compete for podium spots, giving the Jaguars additional scoring opportunities across the two-day meet.
In the field events, Southern boasts some of the conference's top marks.
Roman Smith leads the men's high jump with a 2.15m clearance, supported by freshman Keith S. Fowler (2.08m) and
Herman Batiste (2.06m), forming one of the league's deepest groups.
Sahnya Lathon (1.71m) and
Camille Lewis (1.70m) carry the women's high jump hopes, with Lewis also contributing in the long jump.
Koi Wedderburn's 7.23m mark highlights the men's long jump, while
Reginald King's 14.83m sets the pace in the triple jump. In the throws,
Michael Fulton enters as a contender in both the shot put (16.10m) and weight throw (16.61m).
Layla Spann-McDonald (16.52m) and
Ariyonna Edmond (16.34m) lead a strong women's weight throw group, and Ayanna Hunt (12.52m) and
Mar'Rica Trone (12.09m) provide additional depth in the shot put.
