Southern Rolls Past Grambling Behind DeMya Porter’s Interior Dominance

Grambling, La. — Southern turned Saturday afternoon into a statement win, pulling away early and never looking back in a 60-43 blowout victory over Grambling at the Fredrick C Hobdy Assembly Center. Sophomore standout DeMya Porter anchored the effort with a strong all-around performance, finishing with 16 points and seven rebounds as the Jaguars controlled the game on both ends of the floor.

Southern set the tone in the opening quarter, shooting confidently and building a double-digit lead behind crisp ball movement and relentless work on the glass. The Jaguars led 24-13 after one, stretched the margin to 41-27 at halftime, and held Grambling to just 26.2 percent shooting for the game while forcing tough looks throughout.

Porter was efficient and physical, converting 8 of 12 shots while battling inside against Grambling's front court. Her presence opened up opportunities for Southern's depth, as the Jaguars received 30 bench points and finished with a 45-43 rebounding edge, including timely second-chance baskets that kept momentum firmly on their side.

Keys to Victory

1. Paint control: Southern scored consistently inside and matched Grambling's 28 paint points while doing far more damage on second chances.

2. Defensive discipline: The Jaguars held Grambling to 43 points and forced poor shooting nights across the lineup.

3. Depth and balance: Southern's bench outscored Grambling's 30-16, keeping energy high for four quarters.
