Jaguars Record Multiple Top-Five Finishes at LSU Purple Tiger Meet

BATON ROUGE, La. — Southern University track and field opened the weekend with a strong showing Friday at the LSU Purple Tiger meet inside the Carl Maddox Field House, posting several podium finishes against a competitive field.
 
Southern's women made an early impact in the hurdles as Tashina Alase finished second overall in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.36, advancing through prelims and placing just behind LSU's Salieci Myles. Teammate Taylor Hankton also reached the finals and placed sixth with a time of 10.15, while Alase later competed in the women's 60-meter dash, earning a fifth-place finish in 7.59.
 
In the field events, the Jaguars delivered multiple top finishes. Azariah Foster placed third in the women's triple jump with a mark of 11.79 meters, while Khaya Hunt finished eighth in the women's shot put at 11.86 meters. Southern added depth in the event as Mar'Rica Trone and Ariyonna Edmond placed 10th and 11th, respectively.
 
On the men's side, Michael Fulton turned in one of Southern's top performances of the meet, placing second overall in the men's shot put with a throw of 15.94 meters, narrowly trailing the event winner from Southeastern Louisiana. Haywood Gallien also competed in the event, finishing eighth with a mark of 12.32 meters.
 
Southern's jumpers continued to shine as Koi Wedderburn recorded a fourth-place finish in the men's long jump, posting a top mark of 7.03 meters. On the women's side, Kendall Cook finished fourth in the long jump with a leap of 5.38 meters, while Peyton Funderburk, Demetria Harris, and Sincere Wilson all earned top-10 finishes in the event.
 
Southern also made its presence felt in the hurdles on the men's side. Herman Batiste placed fifth in the men's 60-meter hurdles finals with a time of 8.16, while Christon Washington finished eighth at 8.30 after advancing through prelims earlier in the day.
 
In relay action, Southern's women's 4x400-meter relay team of Taylor Hankton, Quenteria Brits, T'La Dewitt, and Camille Lewis-Wilson finished second overall, crossing the line in 3:58.10, just behind Louisiana's 'A' squad
