BATON ROUGE, La. — The Southern University track and field teams open the season at the LSU Purple Tiger meet inside the Carl Maddox Field House on Friday.

Southern will be represented across all disciplines, with strength in the throws, jumps, sprints, and relays. In the women's weight throw,
Layla Spann-McDonald enters the competition with one of the top seed marks in the field, joined by teammate Ariyonna Edmond.
Michael Fulton and
Haywood Gallien lead the Jaguars in the men's weight throw and shot put, with Fulton carrying a competitive seed in the shot put.

The Jaguars' jumps squad will be active throughout the day.
Koi Wedderburn and
Reginald King are slated to compete in the men's long jump, while King and
Demarion Sowell return for the triple jump. On the women's side,
Sincere Wilson and
Peyton Funderburk compete in the long jump, with
Azariah Foster and
Sahnya Lathon set for the triple jump.
Roman Smith and
Herman Batiste highlight the men's high jump, while
Lauren Joshua competes in the women's pole vault.

Southern's sprint and hurdle groups will see heavy action on the track. Christon Washington and
Herman Batiste represent the Jaguars in the men's 60-meter hurdles, while
Tashina Alase,
Taylor Hankton, and
Camille Lewis-Wilson compete in the women's hurdles. In the 60 meters, Rondisa Williams,
Aniyah Glover, and Alase lead the women's entries, with
Omari Dupas,
Kaden Lewis, and
Darryl Washington competing for the men.

In the 400 meters,
T'La Dewitt and Quenteria Brits headline the women's entries, while Washington anchors the men's quarter-mile group. Southern will also be represented in the 600, 1,000, mile, and 2,000 meters.

The meet concludes with the 4x400-meter relays, where both the men's and women's squads enter with competitive seed times as the Jaguars look to close the day strong.
