Jaguars Knock off Texas Southern At Home On Thursday Night

BATON ROUGE, LA --Southerns' Aniya Gourdine led all scorers with 14 points on Thursday evening as they pick up their third straight win by knocking off Texas Southern 63-53.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lady Tigers opened the game with a 9-2 run over the Jaguars went on a 9-3 run to close out the first ten minutes of play on Thursday evening, 12-11. 
- The Jags continued  their run by opening up the second quarter with a 10-0 run to outscore the Lady Tigers 20-8 to take a eleven-point lead at the first half, 31-20.
- The Jaguars and the Lady Tigers  both scored 17 points each in the third quarter, as the Jags maintain their eleven-point lead to close out the third quarter, 48-37. 
- Despite outscoring the Jaguars16-15, the Lady Tigers couldn't pull off the win as SU give them their first conference loss of the season. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

- Jaguars went 22-of-69 shooting from the field (31.9 percent) and 6-of-22 from 3PT (27.3 percent).
- SU was led by Aniya Gourdine (4-19 FG, 6-8 FT) finished the night with a game-high 14 points, four assists and three steals. Soniyah Reed (5-11 FG, 2-4 3PT) finished the night with 12 points in twenty minutes of play. 
  Jocelyn Tate (4-9 FG, 1-1 3PT) chipped in nine point and seven boards in twenty minutes of play, while Aleighyah Fontenot added eight points on the night for the Jags. Taniya Lawson (2-6 FG, 1-4 3PT) finished the night with seven points  and                                                             a block.

- Nine Jaguars played scored in the contest with two finishing the night with double digits.
- TSU shot 16-of-43 from the field (37.2 percent) and 0-of-9 from 3PT (0.0 percent). 
- Southern pulled down 35 rebounds, including 21 on the defensive side of the glass, led by Lidge with a game-high ten rebounds
- The Lady Tigers registered 40 rebounds, with 29 coming on the defensive end. 
- The Jaguars also went 13-for-20 from the free-throw line. '
- The Lady Tigers sank 21-of-29 from the charity stripe.
- Southern University finished the night with thirteen steals and fifteen assists, led by DaKiyah Sanders with a game-high six assists.
- Texas Southern University came away with five steals and nine assists.
