FORT WORTH, Texas – The Southern University bowling team wrapped up three days of competition at the Bulldog Classic, hosted by Louisiana Tech at City View Lanes, finishing 11th overall in a challenging field that featured 10 nationally ranked programs.
Â
The Lady Jaguars closed the weekend with a 6–7 record and 12,211 total pins for a 182.25 team average, showing steady improvement and strong team chemistry throughout the event.
Â
Southern opened the tournament on Friday with five sets of five game Baker matches. The Lady Jaguars started with an 890–773 loss to Florida A&M after rolling games of 135, 180, 153, 181, and 124. They followed with a competitive showing against No. 8 Sam Houston, falling 1,023–812 but finding their rhythm late behind a 203 final game. That momentum carried into their first win of the weekend, a 986–853 victory over Texas Southern highlighted by a 258 game and five games all above 170.
Â
The final two matches of the day came against a pair of top-five opponents — No. 2 Nebraska and No. 5 Wichita State. Despite strong performances, Southern fell in both matches, 1,031–912 to the Cornhuskers and 1,041–958 to the Shockers, while breaking the 900 mark in each set.
Saturday's traditional play brought out the Lady Jaguars' best bowling of the tournament, led by freshman standout Maria Molina Diaz, who rolled games of 243, 223, 208, 147, and 216 for a 1,037 total (207.4 average). It marked her second straight top-20 individual finish, placing 19th overall.
Â
Molina Diaz's 243 to open the day helped lift Southern to a 913–870 win over No. 24 Oklahoma Christian, with
Mikayla Stephens (192) and
Darian Mobley (181) contributing key scores. The Lady Jaguars followed with a 962–921 victory over conference rival Alabama State, as all five bowlers shot above 170. Molina Diaz (223) and
Za'Viara Williams (202) led the effort, while Stephens added a 193,
Angel Stein a 174, and Mobley a 170.
Â
Southern closed the day with losses to No. 19 Tulane (935–862), Jackson State (924–835), and No. 9 Louisiana Tech (980–917), despite several strong individual games. Molina Diaz continued her solid form with 208 and 216 scores, while
Alanna Jones contributed a 201 and Williams added a 195.
Â
Williams (899 total, 179.8 avg.) and Mobley (867 total, 173.4 avg.) both finished inside the top 50 individually.

Sunday's best-of-seven Baker bracket round capped the weekend on a high note, as the Lady Jaguars maintained their composure through three intense matches. Southern opened with a 4–1 win over Prairie View A&M, rolling 200, 197, 220, and 194 in their victories.
Â
The Jaguars followed with a 4–2 win over Jackson State, rallying from a 2–1 deficit by shooting 207, 231, and 197 over the final three games. In the placement round, Southern defeated Alabama State for the second time on the weekend, 4–2, closing strong with games of 213, 234, and 235 to secure an 11th-place finish.
