The Grind Continues: The Lady Jaguars Ready for Another Championship Run

BATON ROUGE, LA --The defending SWAC Regular Season and Tournament Champions, the Southern University Lady Jaguars, look to repeat their dominating play as they enter the 2025-26 season. With the program's proud motto, "We Grind Different," the Lady Jaguars are once again setting their sights on making more history this year.

Southern's path to another championship run begins with a challenging non-conference schedule that will test their championship poise early and often. The Lady Jaguars open the season on the road at the University of Iowa on November 3, followed by another tough match-up at Iowa State on November 5. They'll continue their road stretch at Ole Miss on November 12 before returning home for their home opener against Tougaloo College on November 18 inside the F.G. Clark Activity Center.

The road battles continue as Southern travels to the West Coast to face UCLA on November 23 and the University of Washington on December 25. The Lady Jaguars will open December at the University of Arizona on December 3, followed by another road test at the University of Houston on December 7. The Lady Jaguars will have a field trip game for the surrounding elementary schools as they face Southern University at New Orleans on December 12. They'll then face Baylor on December 18 before closing out the non-conference slate at Southern Methodist University on December 21.

With nine of their 11 non-conference games on the road, the Lady Jaguars are embracing the challenge, confident that these early tests will prepare them for another championship push once SWAC play begins.

Under the steady leadership of Head Coah Carlos Funchess, now entering his 20th season on the Bluff and eighth at the helm of the program, Southern remains a symbol of consistency, discipline, and excellence.

After making Her-Story last season by becoming the first women's team in SWAC history to win a NCAA Tournament game in any female sport — a 68-56 triumph over UC San Diego — the Lady Jaguars are determined to raise the bar even higher in 2025-26.
The grind continues. The goal remains the same. Southern University is ready to make more history. ??????
