Men’s Basketball closes out Prairie View 84-80

PRAIRIE VIEW | Southern University men's basketball team (7-8, 2-0 SWAC) had four players in double figure scoring as they finished the Texas two-step with another road victory, defeating Prairie View (2-13, 1-1 SWAC) 84-80 Monday night at the William Nicks Building.

Forward AJ Barnes led the Jaguars with a season and game-high 19 points and nine rebounds. Derrick Tezeno contributed 13 points, Jordan Johnson added 11 points and Michael Jacobs finished with 10 points.
 
Tanahj Pettway game-high 21 points to pace Prairie View. Elijah Terry tossed in 13 points.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Southern shot 53.2 percent (33-of-62) from the floor, 28.6 percent (4-of-14) from behind the arc and 51.9 percent (14-of-27) from the charity stripe
  • The Jaguars grabbed 37 rebounds, with 21 coming off the defensive glass
  • AJ Barnes recorded 19 points, nine rebounds, one block
  • Derrick Tezeno registered 13 points and four rebounds. Jordan Johnson added 11 points and Micheal Jacobs contributed 10 points

  • Tanahj Pettway scored game-high 21 points, Elijah Terry added 13 points
  • Prairie View finished with 35 bench points, 28 points in the paint, 26 points off 19 SU turnovers, 20 fastbreak points and five bench points
