Southern Dominates Mississippi Valley On Monday Evening To Win Their Fifth Straight Conference Game

Itta Bena, MS --The Jaguars got off to a fast start and never looked back as they dismantle Mississippi Valley on Monday evening in front of 2,106 fans inside Harrison HPER Complex. Final from Itta Bena was 71-51.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- The Jaguars got off to a fast start outscoring the Lady Devilettes 15-8 at the end of the first quarter, 9-8.  
- The Jags opened up the ball game by outscoring the Lady Devilettes 21-16 to take a twelve-point lead at the first half, 36-24.
- The Jaguars score back-to-back 20-point quaters to extend their lead to 18-point to close out the third quarter, 58-36. 
- Despite battling back in the fourth quarter, the Lady Devilettes fell short on Monday night to give the Jags their fifth straight win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

- Jaguars went 27-of-52 shooting from the field (48.2 percent) and 7-of-11 from 3PT (63.6 percent).
- SU was led by Aniya Gourdine (6-9 FG, 2-2 FT) and Aleighyah Fontenot (5-7 FG, 3-4 3PT) finished the night with 15-points each. Jocelyn Tate (5-9 FG) chipped in ten points on the day.
- Nine Jaguars played scored in the contest with three finishing the night with double digits.
- MVSU shot 18-of-58 from the field (31.0 percent) and 2-of-20 from 3PT (10.0 percent). 
- Southern pulled down 40 rebounds, including 29 on the defensive side of the glass, led by Tionna Lidge with a game-high eight rebounds
- The Lady Devilettes registered 33 rebounds, with 21 coming on the defensive end. 
- The Jaguars also went 10-for-17 from the free-throw line. 
- The Lady Devilettes sank 13-of-16 from the charity stripe.
- Southern University finished the night with eleven steals and eleven assists, led by Tate with four steals.
- Mississippi Valley State University came away with eleven steals and nine assists.

The Jaguars will be back in action on Thursday night as they face-off with Jackson State University on Greek Night. The game is slated for a 6:30 PM tip-off and will be streamed live on Jaguar Sports Newtwork.
