PRAIRIE VIEW, TX -- Southern University women's basketball team opened conference play against Prairie View on Thursday evening, where they dominated the Lady panthers from start to finish led by Aniya Gourdine. Final score from William Nicks Building was 60-48.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Jaguars went 21-of-51 shooting from the field (41.2 percent) and 3-of-11 from 3PT (27.3 percent).
- SU was led by Gourdine (5-8 FG, 2-4 FT)  finished the day with 12 points, along with four boards, three assists, one block and three steals.
- Aleighyah Fontenot (4-8 FG, 2-2 FT) picked up her first double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while D'Shantae Edwards (2-7 FG, 5-12 FT) and Jocelyn Tate added nine points each. Edwards added two rebounds, two assists and three steals on the night.
- Ten Jaguars played scored in the contest with two finishing the night with double digits.
- PVAMU shot 14-of-45 from the field (31.1 percent) and 2-of-10 from 3PT (20.0 percent). 
- Southern pulled down 40 rebounds, including 20 on the defensive side of the glass.
- The Lady Panthers registered 29 rebounds, with 18 coming on the defensive end. 
- The Jaguars also went 15-for-35 from the free-throw line. 
- The Lady Panthers sank 18-of-25 from the charity stripe.
- Southern University finished the night with fifteen steals and seven assists.
- Prairie View A&M University came away with eleven steals and four assists.

The Jaguars will be back in action on Saturday afternoon as they complete the Texas swing at 3:00 PM against the Texas Southern Tigers inside H&PE Arena. The game will be streamed live on YouTube on Texas Southern Athletics.
