Whitfield, Givens to Represent Southern at SWAC Football Media Day

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Wide receiver Chandler Whitfield and defensive end Ckelby Givens will represent Southern University at the 2024 Southwestern Athletic Conference annual SWAC Football Media Day at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 16 at the Sheraton-Birmingham.

Southern head football coach Terrence Graves, who is in his first season as head coach, will join the rest of the SWAC head coaches to address the media about the upcoming 2024 football season.

The Jaguars will be live on ESPN+ 11:00 a.m.

Chandler Whitfield finished with 455 total yards and two touchdowns. He had 17 receptions for 299 yards and had 156 punt return yards.

Ckelby Givens was an All-SWAC First Team and HBCU BOXTOROW All-American Team selection, tallied 61 tackles, including 32 solo stops. He finished with 21.0 tackles for loss, eight quarterback hurries, seven sacks, four fumbles and one fumble recovery.

The Shreveport, La. native, helped guide the number three ranked defense in the SWAC, while leading the SWAC in tackles for loss.

Southern opens the 2024 season at McNeese State on Saturday, Aug. 31 inside Cowboy Stadium. Kickoff against the Cowboys is set for 7:00 p.m. and streamed on ESPN+. The Jaguars will have its home opener a week later with the 7^th Annual Pete Richardson Classic as SU plays host to Savannah State on HBCUGO Sports Network.

Season tickets are on sale at the Southern Athletics Ticket Office. Tickets can be purchased online at https://am.ticketmaster.com/southernu/ or at the SU Ticket Office on campus.
