Southern Track & Field Has Strong Showing at Louisiana Classics

LAFAYETTE, LA – Southern University men's and women's track and field opened the 2024 outdoor season Saturday at the University of Louisiana Lafayette Louisiana Classics. Sixteen different athletes had personal best in their respective events. The Jaguars came away with fourteen top ten finishes.

Things got started early with field events where Camille Lewis (women's high jump) finished second overall.     
 
Later that afternoon the running events got kicked off for the Jaguars Ta'Cardrick Alexander (men's 800m) finished first overall.

  • Roman Smith recorded his season best in the men's long jump with a jump of 6.78m
  • Reginald King recorded his season best in the men's long jump with a jump of 7.03m
  • Mehki Smith finished sixth in the men's shotput with a throw of 15.31m
  • Tomadric Jessie recorded his season best in the men's long jump with a jump of 6.69m
  • Haywood Gallien finished tenth overall in men's shotput with a throw of 13.79m
  • Kolby Mathews finished eleventh overall in the men's shotput with a throw of 13.57m
  • Calvin Aldoph recorded his season best in the men's shotput with a throw of 13.04m 
UP NEXT
Southern will be back in action Saturday, March 23rd as they travel across town to compete in the Keyth Talley Invitational at the Bernie Moore Track Stadium on the campus of LSU.
