Southern Track & Field Has Strong Showing at Louisiana Classics

LAFAYETTE, LA – Southern University men's and women's track and field opened the 2024 outdoor season Saturday at the University of Louisiana Lafayette Louisiana Classics. Sixteen different athletes had personal best in their respective events. The Jaguars came away with fourteen top ten finishes.

Things got started early with field events where Camille Lewis (women's high jump) finished second overall.

Later that afternoon the running events got kicked off for the Jaguars Ta'Cardrick Alexander (men's 800m) finished first overall.

WOMEN'S TRACK EVENTS

Camille Lewis finished 2nd 1:01.05 (Women's 400mH
Tashina Alase finished 4th 13.95 (women's 100 hurdles)
Jada Chevalier finished 6th 14.12 (women's 100 hurdles)
Women's 1600m relay finished fourth overall with a time of 3:55.28.19

WOMEN'S FIELD EVENTS

Camille Lewis finished 2nd tied her personal best 1.75m (women's High Jump
Layla Spann-McDonald finished 9th 44.93m (women's Hammer)
Kinzli Zenon recorded her personal best in the women's javalin with a throw of 36.66

MEN'S TRACK EVENTS

Alexander finished first overall in the men's 800m with a time of 1:55.46
DeAnthony Nervis finished in second place in the men's 400m with a time of 47.89
Christion Washington finished third overall in the men's 110m hurdles with a time of 14.44
Clydeterrious Thompson finished sixth overall in the men's 200m with a time of 21.14
Rodney Johnson, Jr. finished twelfth overall in the men's 200m with a time 21.53
Men's 4x100 Relay finished second overall with a time of 40.60

Men's 1600m relay finished fourth overall with a time of 3:16.47

MEN'S FIELD EVENTS

Roman Smith recorded his season best in the men's long jump with a jump of 6.78m
Reginald King recorded his season best in the men's long jump with a jump of 7.03m
Mehki Smith finished sixth in the men's shotput with a throw of 15.31m
Tomadric Jessie recorded his season best in the men's long jump with a jump of 6.69m
Haywood Gallien finished tenth overall in men's shotput with a throw of 13.79m
Kolby Mathews finished eleventh overall in the men's shotput with a throw of 13.57m
Calvin Aldoph recorded his season best in the men's shotput with a throw of 13.04m

UP NEXT
Southern will be back in action Saturday, March 23rd as they travel across town to compete in the Keyth Talley Invitational at the Bernie Moore Track Stadium on the campus of LSU.
