Southern Drops A Close One To Jackson State On The Road

JACKSON, MS --  A heavy weight fight for forty minutes inside Lee E. Williams Athletics and Assembly Center on the campus of Jackson State Universiy, Southern fell short 63-58 after leading for majority of the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Jaguars went 16-of-50 shooting from the field (32.0 percent) and 3-of-10 from 3PT (30 percent).
- SU was led by Genovea Johnson (2-9 FG, 7-11 FT) finished the day with 11 points, two steals and seven rebounds.
- Taylor Williams (4-9 FG, 2-4 FT) chipped in ten points, three rebounds and four steals in thirty-four minutes of play. Aniya Gourdine (2-5 FG, 2-2 3PT) added nine points and Raven White (2-4 Fg, 4-4 FT)finished the night with eight points for the jaguars. Cayla Obillo (1-4 FG, 4-4 FT) and Kyanna Morgan (2-6 FG, 3-5 FT) finshed with seven points each.
- Nine Jaguars played scored in the contest along with two in double-digits.
- JSU shot 14-of-45 from the field (31.4 percent) and 4-of-19 from 3PT (21.6 percent). 
- Southern pulled down 28 rebounds, including 19 on the defensive side of the glass.
- The Lady Tigers registered 38 rebounds, with 27 coming on the defensive end. 
- The Jaguars also went 23-for-32 from the free-throw line. 
- The Lady Braves sank 31-of-40 from the charity stripe.
- Southern University finished the night with nine steals and nine assists.
- Alcorn State University came away with ten steals and thirteen assists.

UP NEXT
Southern will back in on Saturday, February 10th as they take in Alabama A&M and Monday, February 12th against Alabama State inside the F. G. Clark Activity Center. Bothe games will have a 3 PM tipoff.
