2024 Southern University Football Know Before You Go Game Day Traffic,Parking, RV/Tailgate, Clear Bag Policy, and Stadium Rules. Southern University Athletics urges fans to arrive early before kick-off for all Southern University home football games at A.W. Mumford Stadium. We are expecting large crowds and tailgaters, to help with the ease of traffic flow we ask you to arrive early.

There are a limited number of game day RV and tailgating spots available, call 225-771- 3171 for more info. Individual vehicles will not be allowed to park in RV lots. All motor homes and fifth wheeler's must park in the areas designated for motor homes. If you will be towing a vehicle, you must purchase a parking permit for the vehicle and park it in the designated lot that corresponds to the permit.

Traffic on Campus during Normal Traffic Flow 

  • Traffic onto campus by way of Harding Boulevard.
    • The right lane of Harding Boulevard is for Decal Reserved Parking Lots A, B, C, D and G (Mini Dome and Stadium Parking).
    • The left lane of Harding Boulevard is for Decal Reserved Parking Lots, E, V, U 
    • Game day bus parking should enter on Harding and proceed to E.C. Harrison Drive. Parking is $250 for all non-SU Alumni/Booster Clubs.
    • General parking should enter through Harding Boulevard, Mills Avenue or Swan Avenue. Parking is $20 per car.

*Any decal entering the Mini Dome may be allowed to pass through the Mini Dome parking area if it is not Lot D to get their designated decal parking area.

Traffic onto campus by way of Swan Avenue will be able to get to Lots A, B, C, F, G, H, I and S.

* Any decals entering Swan Ave. may be allowed to get to Lots A, B, or D also.

Traffic onto campus by way of B. A. Little Dr. from Mills Avenue will be able to get to Lots C, F, G, H, I, and S.

* Any decals entering B. A. Little Dr. may be allowed to get to Lots A, B, or D also.

RV / Tailgating Rules

RV / Tailgating on the Baton Rouge Campus begins at 6 a.m. on Gameday until start of the game. Fans and Patron's are strongly urged to adhere to the policies listed below regarding Gameday tailgating policies and procedures. 

There is no re-entry once fans (reserved or general admission) enter the SUBR campus after 6 a.m. on Saturday. Once the tabs on the parking tags are punched, fans are prohibited from leaving the campus or access any area for drop off.

These policies are intended to ensure the safety of all who enter the Southern University campus. All of the following policies are strictly enforced and tailgating and/or parking privileges are subject to revocation should fans violate these rules and policies.

If anyone violates the below policies they are subject to have there credentials revoked and can possibly face further penalties. 

 

Traffic on Campus during Contra-flow Traffic

  • Harding Blvd. Contra-flow Traffic
    • All lanes will be inbound.
    • Contra-flow traffic will start three hours prior to kickoff or earlier if necessary. For example, for a6 p.m. kickoff contra-flow traffic will start at 3 p.m.
 

Limited Mobility

Bradford Hall and SU Police Station Parking lots will be designated limited mobility lots, please be advised that parking is on a first come basis.
 

RV / Tailgating Rules

RV / General Tailgating Policies

 
Parking Pass
All parking tags / decals must be visible at all times, to ensure that the vehicle/tailgate is in the correct space.
 

Bands & Music

Live musical bands / Disc Jockeys (DJ's) or other live performances are NOT allowed at tailgating sites or on campus without prior approval from Southern University Athletics.
 

Music (Amplified)

Music must be confined to your tailgate area and speakers must be directed into your tailgate party. Allmusic must be turned off by midnight the night before games and by 2
a.m. after games. Disc jockeys are not allowed unless approval from Southern University Athletics. Tailgaters are encouraged to contact SUPD at (225) 771-2770 when music from another tailgate partybecomes a nuisance or has repeated profanity.
 

Caterers

Caterers must have proper parking permits to be admitted to private tailgate areas in reserved lots. Dropping off tailgate orders or supplies without a permit will not be allowed.
 

Cookers

Cookers on trailers are not allowed in reserved lots, and no cooker at any location on campus may be larger than a 55-gallon drum (23" in diameter x 35" long). Cookers may not be placed in travel lanes orin parking spaces. Cookers may not be placed inside buildings.
 

Cooking Sites

Policy: Cooking is not permitted under building entrances, patios, covered walks or on any exposed aggregate, ornamental concrete, brick pavers, etc., where grease drippings can stain surfaces. Cooking is not permitted on any of the SU playing surfaces...
 

Fencing & Flooring

Fans may not erect or remove fencing or barricades of any type (permanent or temporary) on the SUBR campus. Fan may also not setup any temporary flooring anywhere on the SUBR campus or other areasdeemed to be sensitive or prone to
 
damage.
 

Food sales/food vendors

Policy: No food sales or vendors are allowed on campus without approval from Southern University Athletics.
 

Food Distribution

Companies and individuals may not issue samples or products without being properly licensed by theUniversity and approved by Southern University Athletics. Food, drink, and other items may neither be sold nor given to the general public.
 

Generators

Portable electrical generators are permitted but are discouraged. For temporary electrical needs, SouthernUniversity recommends the use of battery-operated inverters that convert the battery current to house current. These recommended devices do not generate hazardous carbon monoxide emissions, do not require gasoline cans and resultant hazards, and do not create noise that is potentially damaging to hearing and a nuisance to fellow tailgaters. The operation of portable electrical generators that create excessive noise, emission hazards or other safety concerns will not be permitted.
 

Glass Containers

Policy: Glass containers are not allowed for use during tailgating activities.
Reason: Broken glass can cause a safety hazard, not only for tailgaters, but also for students on campusduring the week. This is a particular concern on the Parade Ground and other areas that are used for student recreational activities.
 

Motorized Vehicles (Go Carts, Etc.)

Policy: Four-wheelers, ATV's, Mopeds, Scooters, Side-by-Side ATV's, Go Carts, Hover Boards and other custom motorized gas vehicles are not permitted on the Southern University campus unless authorized by Southern University Athletics.
 

Golf Carts

Golf Carts are allowed on campus during tailgating and gameday activities but must be operated by a license driver with a valid driver's license.
 

Political Activity

Policy: Political activity is subject to the same rules that apply to all signage, banners, solicitation, distribution of literature and other non-SUBR activities on the SUBR campus. Distribution of fliers, stickers,buttons, signs, or promotional items is prohibited without approval by SUBR Administration. Contact the SUBR Office of Finance & Administration at (225) 578-3386 prior to game day for information on the approval process. Subject to reasonable restrictions to protect safety and pedestrian access, you maydisplay political signs measuring not more than 2 feet in any dimension within your immediate tailgatingarea, if you are present at the location at all times and the signs do not block any walkway or other path.
 

Port-O-Lets

Policy: Individuals may not arrange to bring portable restrooms onto campus. SUBR provides port-o-lets and restrooms in many buildings throughout campus for the convenience of fans. Fans are not allowed to put locks on port-o-lets provided by SUBR Athletics.
 

Remote-Controlled Aircraft & Drones

Policy: The use and/or operation of remote-controlled equipment/cameras/toys/aircraft (including all dronesand unmanned aircraft systems) is strictly prohibited on all areas of the SUBR Campus – including Gamedays and during gameday related activities (i.e.
Friday game preparations). All grounds and parking lots are considered part of the SUBR Campus.
 

Sidewalks & Bike Paths

All tailgating activities in this section are not permitted on sidewalks, bike paths and landscaped areas.
 

Signage and Banners

Policy: Banners and signage recognizing businesses, may not be displayed, nor may promotional/commercial materials be distributed without prior approval by Southern Administration. For non-commercial messages (that is, non-profit or political messages), and subject to reasonable restrictions to protect safety and pedestrian access, small signs, measuring not more than 2 feet in any dimension, may be placed within your immediate tailgating areas, if you are present at the location at all times and the signs do not block any walkway or other path. A.W. MUMFORD IN-STADIUM POLICIES


ARTIFICIAL NOISE-MAKERS
Southwestern Athletic Conference rules do not permit artificial noisemakers to be brought into or used in A.W. Mumford Stadium. Anyone found violating this policy is subject to ejection and item is subject to confiscation.

BANNERS AND POLES
Banners may NOT be hung and poles may NOT be brought into A.W. Mumford Stadium unless approved by SU Athletic Administration. Documentation of the approved request must be shown.

CAMERAS 
Cameras are permitted in A.W. Mumford Stadium for both fans and working news media. All photos taken in A.W. Mumford Stadium must be for editorial or personal use only and may not be used for advertising, promotions or any other commercial or promotional endeavor, without the permission of SU Athletics. Camera bags, Tripods or Selfie Sticks are NOT permitted along with extended camera lenses for fans. (See Clear Bag Policy below)

CLEAR BAG POLICY | Click Here
SU recommends fans only bring what is necessary with you to SU Athletics venues such as phones, wallets, credit cards and car keys. Only CLEAR tote bags smaller than 12" x 6" x 12" will be allowed into A.W. Mumford Stadium and all other SU Athletics venues. One-gallon clear plastic bags and/or small handheld clutch purses, not larger than 4.5" X 6.5", will also be allowed to enter. All backpacks, regardless of size, are prohibited. Exceptions will only be made for those with approved medical needs. All bags are subject to search and inspection. MEDICAL POLICY STATEMENT: FOOD ENTRY FOR MEDICAL REASONS
A.W. Mumford Stadium is committed to ensuring the health and safety of all our guests. We understand that some individuals may have specific medical dietary needs that require them to bring their own food into the stadium. This policy outlines the guidelines for guests who need to bring food for medical reasons.

1. Medical Documentation: Guests requesting to bring food into the stadium for medical reasons are encouraged to provide appropriate medical documentation to the SU ticket office days prior to the contest, that outlines their dietary restrictions or medical conditions.

2. Types of Food Allowed: Guests may bring food items that are necessary for their medical needs. These items should be non-perishable and clearly labeled if possible. 

3. Security Screening and Entry: All food items brought into the stadium will be subject to security screening. Guests are encouraged to arrive early to allow time for this process and enter through ADA/Medical Check Point on the East and West side of the stadium.

4. Prohibited Items: While we accommodate medical dietary needs, guests are not allowed to bring in outside food that does not meet medical requirements, including large containers or bags of food intended for general consumption.

5. Communication: Guests with specific medical needs are encouraged to communicate with our ticket office prior to the event and submitting documentation. They can call 225-771-3171 if they have questions.

6. Compliance with Stadium Policies: All guests must comply with the stadium's policies and procedures while on the premises. Failure to adhere to these guidelines may result in restricted access to the stadium.

OUTSIDE FOOD & BEVERAGES
Outside food or drink and other containers of any kind such as coolers, ice chests, bottles, cans, cups, flasks, etc. are not permitted. If you have a medical need for any of these items, please enter at the ADA/Medical check points at the East and West Side gates.

RE-ENTRY TO STADIUM
Anyone leaving the stadium must have an un-scanned, new ticket to return to the stadium. Once a ticket has been scanned, it may not be used again for re-entry, unless otherwise directed by SU Event Management (or gameday officials) in emergencies.

SMOKING & TOBACCO USE
On October 28, 2012, SU became tobacco free, in accordance with the Southern University System Tobacco-Free Policy. The use of tobacco products on any Southern University campus is prohibited by students, staff, faculty or visitors in all campus buildings, facilities, or property owned or leased by Southern University System and outside areas of the campus where non-smokers cannot avoid exposure to smoke; on campus grounds, facilities, or vehicles that are the property of the campus; and at lectures, conferences, meetings, and social and cultural events held on school property or school grounds. All of SU's athletic facilities are considered public buildings under this statute. This prohibition applies to all individuals while on the SU Campus, including faculty, staff, students, administrators, contractors, and visitors. The use of cigarettes, e-cigarettes, cigars, smokeless tobacco, snuff, pipes, vapes and chewing tobacco are not permitted.

STADIUM SEATS (PORTABLE)
Any stadium seat measuring 16 inches wide or less will fit into any seat in A.W. Mumford Stadium. Only stadium seat cushions with no pockets or compartments will be admitted. (See Clear Bag Policy) Please be considerate of those sitting around you and please be aware that some seats sold by local vendors with SU logos may be too large for use at A.W. Mumford Stadium. 

STADIUM SECURITY
Southern will do everything possible to provide a safe and secure environment for its fans. Please be cooperative with stadium officials and law enforcement agencies during your visit to A.W. Mumford Stadium. Should you or another guest need immediate assistance, please notify the nearest police officer or event staff personnel. If you see something, say something.

STORING ITEMS
Fans can't store prohibited bags & items near stadium entrances. Items left at the gate/entrance will be confiscated and discarded during security sweeps

THROWN OBJECTS
The throwing of objects from the stands is strictly prohibited and is cause for immediate ejection. Thrown objects can cause serious injury. SU takes very seriously the safety of fans, coaches, athletes and officials. SU will act promptly and accordingly if the safety of any individual is in jeopardy. Any fan/spectator ejected for throwing objects or unauthorized access may be subject to additional penalties and possible loss of future ticket privileges.

TICKETS
All persons, three years old and over , must present a ticket for admission to A.W. Mumford Stadium. This policy is for the convenience and safety of all Jaguar ticket holders. 

UMBRELLAS
Umbrellas are NOT allowed in A.W. Mumford Stadium. Umbrellas left at the gate/entrance will be confiscated and discarded during security sweeps. Umbrellas are a sight obstruction and possible safety hazard for other fans. Southern advises the use of ponchos or other wearable rain gear for inclement weather.

VIDEO CAMERAS & RECORDING
Video cameras are not permitted in A.W. Mumford Stadium except for the working news media. Video images taken in A.W. Mumford Stadium must be for personal use only and may not be used for advertising, promotions or other trade purposes, or any other commercial or promotional endeavor, without the permission of SU Atheltics.

Non-Allowables & A.W. Mumford Stadium Policies

For the comfort, enjoyment and safety of all Jaguar fans – please follow these guidelines for items brought into A.W. Mumford Stadium. All items are subject to approval by the discretion of SU Athletics and Event Management and A.W. Mumford Stadium Law Enforcement. No items may be left at or near the gates of the stadium. Stadium security sweeps will discard any unattended item.

The following items are prohibited and not allowed in A.W. Mumford Stadium:

  • Animals of any kind except documented service animals
  • Artificial noise makers – violators subject to ejection and loss of ticket privileges
  • Backpacks of any variety – including drawstring & synch bags
    – All bags & purses that do not meet the approved guidelines
    – See Clear Bag Policy
  • Containers of any kind – coolers, ice chests, bottles, cans, cups, flasks, etc.
  • Food & beverages – brought from outside the stadium gates. 
  • Laser devices
  • Oversized stadium seats (no pockets/zippers/compartments & no wider than 16") or objects that may impede on the comfort & safety of others – portable heaters, mini fans, etc.
  • Projectiles of any variety – banners, flags, poles, brooms, etc.
    – Small handheld signs are subject to approval by SU Athletics Administration
  • Strollers
  • Video recording devices & equipment (including stands and extended camera lenses)
  • Umbrellas
  • Weapons of any variety – firearms, knives, pocket knives, multi-function tools, etc.

Confiscated Items will be destroyed and not returned.

SPORTSMANSHIP & FAN BEHAVIOR

Southern University Athletics encourages its fans to show good sportsmanship and conduct themselves in a manner that represents SU, the Southwestern Atheltic Conference and the NCAA with honor, dignity and respect. All fans in attendance shall demonstrate the qualities of civility and sportsmanship at all times.

  • Refrain from the use of vulgar, abusive, racist, sexist, demeaning or intimidating language at any time.
  • Always support the players, coaches and officials in a positive manner.
  • Treat the visiting team, coaches and fans with courtesy and respect at all times.
  • Refrain from engaging in cheers that are vulgar, crass or demeaning.
  • Refrain from throwing objects for any reason.

SU Athletics has high standards of fan behavior for all guests in attendance – failure to comply with the sportsmanship guidelines set forth may result in ejection and loss of future ticket privileges. 

The SWAC has adopted the following principles regarding fan access to competition areas:

In all sports, access to the competition area shall be limited to participating student-athletes, coaches, officials, support personnel and properly-credentialed individuals at all times. For the safety of participants and spectators alike, at no time before, during or after a contest shall spectators be permitted to enter the competition area.

Penalties against individuals who improperly enter the competition area shall include, but not be limited to, expulsion from the facility, arrest for trespassing, and the loss of future ticket privileges. In addition to these three penalties, violators who are students shall be subject to student disciplinary measures.
