LAKE CHARLES, LA. – Southern University men's and women's indoor track and field traveled to Lake Charles for the McNeese State Invitational where 11 athletes had personal best in their respective events. The Jaguars came away with five first place finishes.
Things got started early with field events where
Peyton Funderburk (women long jump), Sahnya Lathon (women triple jump) and Kevon Hamilton (men triple jump) finished first overall in their respective events.
Later that afternoon the running events got kicked off where the Jaguars had two more first place finishes by
Aisha Johnson (women's 200m) and Clydeterrious Thompson (men 400m).
WOMEN'S TRACK EVENTS
- Johnson wins the women's 200m and records her personal best of 25.88 seconds
- Sierra Session recorded her personal best in the women's 600m with a time of 1:42.93 seconds
- Destiny Mitchell recorded her personal best in the women's 600m with a time of 1:44.92 seconds
WOMEN'S FIELD EVENTS
- Funderburk wins the women's long jump and recorded her personal best with a jump of 5.80m (19'0")
- Lathon wins the women triple jump and recorded her personal best with a jump of 11.47m (37'5.5")
- Madyson Kent recorded her personal best in the women's high jump wigth a jump of 1.55m (5'1")
MEN'S TRACK EVENTS
- Thompson wins the men 400m with a time of 50.99 seconds
- Cameron Stepter recorded his personal best in the mile with a time of 4:39.11 seconds and in the 3000m with a time of 9:40.59 seconds
- Christopher Hughes recorded his personal best with a time of 2:03.93 in the 800m
MEN'S FIELD EVENTS
- Hamilton wins the men triple jump with a jump of 14.66m ( 48'1")
- Reginald King recorded his personal best in the men's triple jump with a jump of 14.45m (47'5")
- Koi Wedderburn recorded his personal best in the men's long jump with a jump of 7.25m (23'9")
- Mehki Smith recorded his personal best in the men's shot put with a throw of 13.80m (45'3.25")
- Haywood Gallien recorded hos personal best in the men's weight throw with a throw of 13.99m (42'8")
UP NEXT
Southern will travel to compete at University of South Alabama in Birmingham, Alabama at the Birmingham Crossplex on Sunday, February 4th.
