BATON ROUGE, La. – The Southern University cross country teams finished fourth and sixth in the LSU Invitational at the University Club. The men finished with 101 points for fourth and the women had 153 points for sixth.

The men's team had four runners finish in the top 25 of the 6k event, all coming in under 21 minutes. Leading the charge for the Jaguars was Lafayette Collins with a 20:09.8 to place him 18th out of 51 runners.  Christian Phillips finished just one second behind to finish 19th with a time of 20.10.7. Bryce Campbell came in at 20:22.4, while Taylor finished at 20:23.8 to claim 22nd and 23rd

"I am really proud of all the guys, especially Lafayette and Christian as they did really well for us today," Head Coach Teremine White said. "They have been practicing well and we were expecting both of them to drop their times. We expect them to do better in the future."

Darrell Lacour, Ta'Cardrick Alexander and Christopher Hughes were the final three Jaguars to cross the finish line. Lacour had a time of 21:48.5 to give the Jaguars their final score. Alexander came across the line at 21:55.2 and Hughes 22.19.2. Only the top five runners' times counted towards the team scores.

The Lady Jaguars took to the 5k course looking to make some noise. Camille Lewis set the pace at 20:26.4, giving her a 19th place finish. Shani Simon finished at 24.32.5 for 38th place. Destiny Mitchell, Kashi Roberts and Sierre Session pushed each other the whole race and were separated by just two seconds. Mitchell finished at 24:53.1, Roberts right behind at 24:56.7 for 43rd and rounding out the Lady Jaguars were Sierra Session at 24:58.6.

"They have been working pretty hard," said Coach Esau Lois "We have been trying to get it going. We have a couple more meets going before the SWAC meet. A couple of our runners are normally sprinters. We are working with what we have, and they are doing a good job. They have to keep working hard and can't hold back."
