BATON ROUGE, LA – Southern University's baseball team returns home for a four-game series against Prairie View A&M University at Lee-Hines Stadium on May 5-7. Friday's game is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m., Saturday's games will start at 3 p.m. with the second game to start an hour after the first and Sunday's game is scheduled for 1 p.m.
 
Southern (14-24, 9-9) is coming off a series loss to the University of Arkansas – Pine Bluff. The Jaguars took game one 10-1, but loss game two, 14-5, and game three, 8-5.
 
Prairie View (17-26, 13-7) lost their midweek game against Lamar on Tuesday. The Panthers lost their previous SWAC series to Grambling. Prairie View took game one 8-5 but lost game two, 11-10, and game three, 12-2.
 
Southern holds an 8-2 record against PVAMU in the last 10 meetings. The Jaguars have won five straight against the Panthers. Prairie View last beat Southern last season in Prairie View.
 
Jaylen Armstrong continues to lead Southern at the plate with a .328 average and a team high seven doubles. Armstrong has four home runs and 29 RBIs. Khyle Radcliffe is second on the team with a .281 average with six doubles and 17 RBIs. O'Neill Burgos is third with a .269 average with five doubles and team leading seven home runs and 40 RBIs.
 
Jalon Long and Nicholas Wilson have solidified themselves as weekend starters for the Jaguars. Wilson has struck out 27 in the past two starts against Grambling and UAPB. Against Grambling Wilson went seven innings striking out 13, the most by a Jaguar pitcher in over a decade. Against UAPB, Wilson went the distance with 14 strikeouts, setting a new best two weeks in a row. On the season, Wilson is 3-2 with a 4.04 ERA with 63 strikeouts and 17 walks in 55.2 innings of work. Long is 2-3 with 49 strikeouts and 32 walks in 41.1 innings.
 
Sebastian Coria leads the Panthers at the plate with a .320 average and nine doubles and 22 RBIs. Garrison Weiss is hitting .296 average with eight doubles and 17 RBIs. Alex Martinez is hitting .276 with eight doubles and team high three home runs and 33 RBIs.
 
Michael Dews has been the normal Friday night starter for Prairie View. Dews is 4-4 with a 5.25 ERA in 61.2 innings of work striking out 45 and walking just seven. Victor Mendoza is 3-2 with a 5.16 ERA in 52.1 innings while striking out 31 and walking 31 on his Saturday starts. Sunday starter, Matthew Krall is 3-2 with a 6.85 ERA in 44.2 innings of work with 36 strikeouts and 29 walks.
