LORMAN, MS – The Southern University baseball team is set to travel for their final road Southwestern Athletic Conference series in Lorman, Mississippi to take on Alcorn State University starting on May 12. Friday's action is set to begin at 6 p.m. while Saturday is set to begin at 3 p.m. and the finale is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Sunday.
 
Southern (17-25, 12-9) is coming off a midweek loss to the University of New Orleans on Wednesday afternoon. The Jaguars swept Prairie View A&M in last weekend's conference series.
 
Alcorn (6-36, 3-21) is coming off a weekend in which they were swept by the University of Arkansas – Pine Bluff. The Braves did not have a midweek game.
 
The Jaguars are 9-1 against Alcorn in the previous 10 meetings between the teams. The Jaguars took the previous series this season 2-1. That lone win by Alcorn ended the Jaguars streak of 12 straight wins against the Braves.
 
Jaylen Armstrong continues to lead Southern at the plate with a .327 average and a team high eight doubles. Armstrong has four home runs and 32 RBIs. O'Neill Burgos has been hot at the plate in his last three games. Burgos hit five home runs with 11 RBIs during that span. For the season, Burgos is hitting .291 with six doubles and a team high 12 homes runs and 51 RBIs. Khyle Radcliffe is hitting .288 on the year with seven doubles and 18 RBIs.
 
On the mound, Nicholas Wilson has been on cruise control in his last three outings. Wilson has 40 strikeouts compared to just three walks in 24 innings of work over that span. On the year, Wilson is 4-2 with a 3.82 ERA in 63.2 innings of work, striking out 76 and walking only 19. Jalon Long is 3-3 with an 8.53 ERA in 44.1 innings of work in the weekend rotation. Long has 52 strikeouts and 34 walks on the year.
 
The Braves are led offensively by Kalum Banks Jr. with a .333 average with six doubles, four home runs and 30 RBIs. Tyler Daniels is the only other Alcorn hitter over .300 with a .300 average and nine doubles, two home runs and 13 RBIs.
 
Kewan Braziel is 1-8 with a 6.24 ERA on the mound in 12 starts. Braziel has 57 strikeouts and 45 walks on the year. Jermel Ford is 1-9 with a 10.45 ERA in 51.2 innings of work with 40 strikeouts and 52 walks.
