PRAIRIE VIEW, TX – Southern is sitting two games behind Prairie View A&M for second in the Southwestern Athletic Conference Western Division standings heading into their three-game series at Tankersley Field on April 8-9.
 
Saturday's contest is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. The doubleheader on Easter Day is scheduled to begin at noon with the second game to follow.
 
Southern (9-18, 5-4) lost their midweek matchup against South Alabama 13-0.
 
Prairie View (11-19, 7-2) won their doubleheader matchup with Huston Tillotson 13-7 and 10-0 on Tuesday.
 
The teams have split the last 10 meetings between the two schools, with each team sweeping the series at their home stadiums last season.
 
Jaylen Armstrong enters the series on an eight game hitting streak and has reached base safely in 14 straight games. Armstrong is hitting .360 with five doubles, a triple, three home runs, 19 RBI and 25 stolen bases. Khyle Radcliffe is second on the team with a .330 average with five doubles and 17 RBI. O'Neill Burgos is hitting .244 with three doubles and team leading four home runs and 28 RBI.
 
Jalon Long has solidified himself as the opening starter for the Jaguars. Long is 2-1 with 41 strikeouts and 22 walks in 33.2 innings. Nicholas Wilson has come on strong in his eight appearances at 2-2 with 30 strikeouts and 15 walks in 35.2 innings.
 
Sebastian Coria and Michael Burroughs are hitting over .300 for the Prairie View. Coria has a .342 average with six doubles and 13 RBI. Burroughs has a .324 average with six doubles and 12 RBI. Alex Martinez leads the team with 29 hits, two home runs and 18 RBI while hitting .279 on the year.
 
The Panthers have used Matthew Krall, Victor Mendoza and Michael Dews for their weekend rotation. Krall is 2-1 with a 5.85 ERA and has struck out 31 and walked 17 in 32.1 innings. Mendoza is 2-2 with a 5.94 ERA with 17 strikeouts and 19 walks in 33.1 innings. Dews is 2-4 with a 6.75 ERA in 40 innings with 28 strikeouts and only five walks.
