Lafayette Collins Wins 3000 at LSU Alumni Gold, 11 Others Finish Top 10

BATON ROUGE, LA – Lafayette Collins picked up his third win in the past two weeks at Bernie Moore Track Stadium on Saturday for the LSU Alumni Gold meet.
 
Eleven other Southern track and field athletes finished their event in the top 10.
 
Logan Lewis and A'ja Gore started the day with top 10 finishes in the hammer throw. Lewis finished eighth with a distance of 156 feet 9 inches. Gore finished 10th with a throw of 145 feet 10 inches.
 
Lewis came back in the shot put and on her first throw set a new personal best with a distance of 47 feet 3 inches to finish fifth. Char'Vares Wilson would finish 10th on the men's side with a distance of 50 feet.
 
Kevon Hamilton finished eighth in the triple jump with a first jump of 48 feet 11.5 inches for a new season best.
 
Bryce Campbell got the running events started for Southern in the 1500. Campbell finished 10th with a time of 4:12.85.
 
Jordan Thompson continues to impress in the 110m hurdles. Thompson finished seventh with a time of 14.26. Thompson would finish eighth in the 400m hurdles with a season best 52.17.
 
Camille Lewis finished eighth in the 800m with a time of 2:17.33. Nicholas Scott finished with a personal best of 1:48.84 to finish second, first among collegiate athletes. Rushane Miller finished eighth with a time of 1:50.81.
 
After picking up wins in the 3000-Steeplechase and 5000 last weekend at the Strawberry Relays, Collins picked up another win, this time in the 3000. Collins set a new personal best at 9:00.07 to win by 7 seconds.
 
Scott, Ta'Cardrick Alexander, Thompson and Rodney Johnson, Jr. teamed up in the 4x400 to set a season best of 3:12.04 to finish sixth.
