MOBILE, Ala. – Southern will participate in the South Alabama Invitational at Stanky Field in Mobile, Alabama from March 3-5. The Jaguars are scheduled to play Iowa on Friday at noon, Pepperdine at noon on Saturday and South Alabama at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
 
Southern (4-4) is coming off a midweek loss to McNeese State, 10-3, Wednesday night.
 
The Jaguars are led offensively by Jaylen Armstrong batting .419 with a team high four doubles and two home runs. Khyle Radcliffe leads the team with seven RBIs with a .409 average. Hunter Tabb is hitting .321 and Jah'li Hendricks has a .304 average.
 
Jalon Long, Nicholas Wilson and Christian Davis got the start on the mound for the Andre Dawson Classic. Long is 1-0 with a team high 11 strikeouts to just five walks in 10.2 innings. Wilson has seven strikeouts in 8 innings and Davis had three strikeouts in his lone appearance on the season.
 
Iowa comes into the Friday matchup on a three-game winning streak and sits at 6-1 on the season. They defeated Loras 9-2 for their lone game during the week. They are led offensively by Keaton Anthony who bats .414 with three doubles, four home runs and five RBIs. Brennen Dorighi is hitting .407 with a team leading four doubles and nine RBIs and has hit three home runs on the season. Ty Langenberg was the Hawkeyes starter the past two Fridays. Langenberg is 0-1 on the season with a 4.66 ERA with five strikeouts and three walks.
 
Southern's second matchup will see them take on Pepperdine who comes into the weekend at 2-4. The Waves are coming off a series split with CSUN after their weekend series got cancelled. Ryan Johnson leads Pepperdine with a .435 average, two doubles and two home runs. Jack Goodman has a .333 average. Shane Telfer is scheduled to start against the Jaguars on Saturday. Telfer is 1-0 on the season with a 1.8 ERA in 10 innings with eight strikeouts and six walks.
 
South Alabama is coming off an 11-7 win against Tulane on Tuesday night. Will Turner leads the Jaguars at the plate with a .438 average, five doubles, two triples and 11 RBIs. Joseph Sullivan has a .350 average with a team high two home runs on the season. Garfield Johns is scheduled to start Sunday for USA. Johns is 0-1 with a 7.36 ERA in 7.1 innings with 12 strikeouts and four walks.
 
Southern won the first meeting against South Alabama but has lost the last three, the last being a 5-0 final in the 2021 season. This will be the first meeting for Southern with Pepperdine and Iowa.
