BIRMINGHAM, AL --  The Southern University Jaguars returns to the 'Big Dance' after defeating the #7 University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions , 62-53 in the 2023 Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament, Saturday afternoon at the Bartow Arena.

In the battle of defenses, the Jaguars were able to keep the Lady Lions from making any significant runs and out rebounding them 40-31.

HOW IT HAPPENED

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Jaguars went 24-of-60 shooting from the field (37.5 percent) and 5-of-17 from 3PT (29.4 percent).
- SU was led by Genovea Johnson (8-18 FG, 2-2 FT) finished the day with 18 points and Mcwain (6-15 FG, 3-9 3PT) added 15 points.
-  Taylor Williams (2-7 FG, 6-6 FT) chipped in ten points on the day for the Jags.
- Seven Jaguars scored in the contest.
- UAPB shot 19-of-51 from the field (37.3 percent) and 5-of-15 from 3PT (33.3 percent). 
- Southern pulled down 43 rebounds, including 26 on the defensive side of the glass.
- The Lady Golden Lions registered 35 rebounds, with 22 coming on the defensive end. 
- The Jaguars also went 9-for-12 from the free-throw line. 
- The Lady Golden Lions sank 10-of-26 from the charity stripe.
- Southern University finished the night with seven steals and ten assists.
- University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff came away with four steals and twelve assists.

Southern be at TJ Ribs for the NCAA selection show on Sunday evening. The doors will open at 5:30 PM and the show will start at 7 PM. Where the Jaguars will find out where they will be heading to play in the 2023 NCAA Tournament.
