Track and Field at Houston Invitational

HOUSTONSouthern University's track and field teams travel to Houston for the Houston Invitational in Yeoman Fieldhouse on January 27. This will be the Jaguars and Lady Jaguars' last tune-up before the Southwestern Athletic Conference indoor championship.
 
The event is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. with the women's high jump. Running events are set to begin at 3:30 p.m. with the women's distance medley relay.
 
Southern currently has 31 athletes inside the top-10 in the SWAC this season, five of those hold onto the top spot.
 
Trinity Bolden continues to be the top contender in the 60m. Her time of 7.41 at the Samford Invite was just off her personal best of 7.40. Her four times in the event this season are the four fastest times in the SWAC.
 
DeAnthony Nervis ran the 200m for the first time at the Samford Invite and took third in the meet. His time of 21.62 would give him the fastest time in the conference.
 
Nicholas Scott would also run the 800m for the first time this season at the Samford Invite, finishing with a time of 1:53.91 would give him the meet title. He is also the top runner in the event in the SWAC.
 
Even though she does not currently have the top time, Camille Lewis would finish third in the women's 800m with a time of 2:18.82. The time would be good enough for second in the conference, giving the Lady Jaguars another runner inside the top two. Lewis also holds the second spot in the high jump with a height of 1.65m, 5 feet 5 inches. She has competed in the event only once.
 
Jordan Thompson would be the final Southern runner to hold onto the top spot. His time of 7.92 at the LSU Purple Tiger is 0.35 seconds faster than second. He would also have the top four times in the conference.
 
Kevon Hamilton would be the lone Southern athlete to hold the top spot in the field events. His distance of 15.19m,22 feet 2.25 inches, from the LSU Purple Tiger gives him one of two jumpers to reach over 15m.
 
The women hold multiple top-5 positions in the weight throw and shot put. Lawrenee' Hart is currently second in the weight throw at 16.28m, 53 feet 5 inches, and fourth in shot put at 13.05m, 42 feet 9.75 inches. She is joined by Logan Lewis who is currently fifth in both events. Lewis has a distance of 13m, 42 feet 8 inches, in the shot put and 14.97m, 49 feet 1.5 inches in the weight throw.
