Mulligan’s Hat-Trick Leads Soccer to 3-1 Victory

ITTA BENA, Miss. – The Southern University Lady Jaguars dominated all aspects of their matchup with Mississippi Valley (0-6, 0-1) but had to use two goals in the final 10 minutes to defeat the Devilettes by a score of 3-1 Friday afternoon in Itta Bena, Mississippi. Lonnie Mulligan scored all three goals for the Lady Jaguars (4-7-1, 1-2).
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Lady Jaguars got things started in the first have by taking nine shots inside the first 20 minuets of the game but were unable to find the back of the net.
  • Mississippi Valley was able to get on the board first in the 24th minute.
  • It did not take long for the Lady Jaguars to equalize the game; Mulligan scored her first goal at the beginning of the 28th minute off an assist from Khari Price.
  • The Lady Jaguars finished with 15 shots and seven on goal in the first half.
  • Southern continued to put pressure on in the second half but MVSU continued to keep the game tied into the 81st minute.
  • Mulligan found the back of the net for the second time in the 81stm minute, this time on the assist from Alayla Jackson.
  • Mulligan was not finished scoring and shut the door on the Devilettes in the 88th minute with her ninth goal of the season.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • SU had 24 shots compared to three by the Devilettes.
  • The Lady Jaguars finished with 10 shots on goal compared to just two by MSVU
  • Southern finished the game with one save compared to seven by Mississippi Valley.
  • Both teams finished with seven fouls.
  • The Lady Jaguars dominated the corners with eight to just one by MSVU.
 
UP NEXT
Southern will look to continue the momentum when they travel to Lorman, Mississippi for an afternoon tilt with Alcorn State. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
