LORMAN, Miss. – Lonnie Mulligan scored her fourth and fifth goal in two games to lead the Lady Jaguars to their second straight Southwestern Athletic Conference win on Sunday afternoon at Jack Spinks – Marino Casem Stadium in Lorman, Mississippi. Southern (5-7-1, 2-2) defeated Alcorn State University (2-7-1, 0-2) with two goals in the first 20 minuets of the second half, 2-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lady Jaguars continue to find themselves getting plenty of chances on the offensive side of the ball. Southern fired at the net eight time, but only three were on target and saved.
- Mulligan found the back of the net first in the 58th minute off the assist from Kirstyn Hale. The goal gave Mulligan her 10th goal of the year.
- Eight minutes later, Khari Price found Mulligan for her second goal of the day.
- Alcorn would pull within one in the 73rdn minute but would not have another shot the rest of the match.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- SU had 18 shots compared to six by Alcorn.
- The Lady Jaguars finished with eight shots on goal, while Alcorn had four.
- Southern finished the game with three saves compared to six by the Braves
- The Lady Jaguars would commit nine fouls and the Braves had five.
- Alcorn had a match high four corners. The Lady Jaguars only corner came in the first half.
- Mulligan is now tied with the SWAC lead in goals at 11. She also moved into the top-15 in the country.
UP NEXT
Southern will look to continue the momentum when they travel to Lorman, Mississippi for an afternoon tilt with Alcorn State. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
