BATON ROUGE, La. – The Southern University Lady Jaguars (0-13, 0-1) forced a fifth set in the Southwestern Athletic Conference opener against the University of Arkansas – Pine Bluff (3-11, 1-0) but would fall 3-2 inside the Seymour Gym on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1
- The teams would trade points to start the match before Southern would win four straight points to take a 11-8 lead.
- UAPB would take seven of the next nine points to take a 15-13 lead.
- Southern would take their first timeout after back-to-back errors and UAPB up 19-17.
- A service error would give the Lady Lions at 24-21 lead and force the Lady Jaguars to use their final timeout.
- Southern would take six of the final seven points to take set one 27-25.
SET 2
- The second set would be another tightly contested match. Neither team would get a lead larger than one until UAPB got up 10-8.
- The Lady Jaguars would use their first timeout down 16-14.
- UAPB would take five of the next seven points and force Southern to use their final timeout.
- UAPB would take set two 25-19.
SET 3
- Nothing would go the Lady Jaguars way in the third set. UAPB would jump out to a 11-5 lead, forcing SU to use a timeout.
- UAPB would take the third set 25-8.
SET 4
- The Lady Jaguars would respond in a big way in set four. SU would jump out to a 5-1 lead before UAPB would call their first timeout.
- Southern would continue to gradually extend their lead and force UAPB to use their final timeout with the score 19-13.
- SU would extend the lead even further before Xaria Taylor slammed the door with the final kill, giving the Lady Jaguars a 25-15 set four win.
SET 5
- The final set had the Lady Jaguars jumping out to a 6-3 lead early and UAPB would use their first timeout.
- UAPB would fight their way back and take the lead 8-7 before the teams would trade sides.
- Southern would call their first timeout after the Lady Lions got the next point.
- UAPB would end up with nine of the final 11 points to take set five 15-9.

- UAPB would have a 50-46 advantage in kills
- Southern had three aces compared to 11 by the Lady Lions
- SU would finish with eight blocks to 12 by UAPB
