BATON ROUGE, La. – Southern Lady Jaguars (3-5-1, 0-1) started out Southwestern Athletic Conference with a tough defeat to the Lady Lions of University of Arkansas - Pine Bluff (6-6, 1-0) Friday night inside A.W. Mumford Stadium/Pete Richardson Field.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• The first half was a back-and-forth affair with Southern holding a slight advantage in time of possession, 55%-45%.
• UAPB got on the board first in the 24th minute when the Lady Lions were able to find bottom left corner.
• The rest of the half continued to be a hard-fought match. The Lady Jaguars finished with six shots in the first half, four on goal. UAPB finished with nine total shots and five on goal.
• The second half was no different from the first. Both teams fought hard to try and take the conference opener.
• The Lady Jaguars had four shots in the final 10 minutes to get the equalizer, but the shots would be a too hard.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

• SU had 18 shots compared to 15 by the Lady Lions.
• Both teams finished with seven shots on goal.
• Southern finished the game with six saves compared to seven by UAPB.
• The Lady Jaguars had eight fouls, UAPB finished with five.
• Both teams finished with four corners each.
