LAKE CHARLES, LA – The Southern University Lady Jaguars made a late match push but fall short, in 2-1 loss to the McNeese Cowgirls Wednesday night at Cowgirl Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams played good defense in the first half on the way to a 0-0 halftime score.
- McNeese got on the board first in the 57th minute with a goal be Salma Elhaimer.
- The Cowgirls extended their lead to 2-0 in the 73rd minute.
- SU had multiple tries to cut into the lead. The Lady Jaguars were finally able to break through in the 83rd minute. SU was not able to get the equalizer in the final seven minutes.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- McNeese held an 18-11 advantage on shots
- Southern had six shots on goal compared to 13 by McNeese
- SU goalkeeper Sydney Bellamy played her fifth complete game in the net, recording her second double digit save effort with 10. She now has 36 saves in five games.
- Both teams committed 12 fouls
- Southern held a 7-4 advantage on corner kicks
UP NEXT
Southern will travel to Hammond Friday night to take on the Southeastern Lions inside Strawberry Stadium. First kick is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
