Southern Goes 1-1 In The Semifinals To Advance to the Championship Game For The Third Straight Year

BIRMINGHAM, AL-- Southern University baseball team goes 1-1 on the day to advance to their third straight championship game appearance as they face off with Alabama State University at 12 PM on Sunday afternoon live on ESPN3. 

This will be the Jaguars 28th appearance in the championship game since 1979. 

Game 1
SU 7 FAMU 11

The Jags tallied three runs in the first inning. SU big bats in the inning were led by Jovante Dorris and Taj Porter


The Jaguars picked up seven runs off eleven hits on the day. In the first inning Dorris doubled down the left field line to send Jaylen Armstrong home to give the Jags their first run of the day. Porter somgle to the left field wall to send Tremaine Spears and Dorris home to give the Jags a quick 3-0 lead over the Rattlers. In sixth inning Michael Latulas nailed a fast ball 400 feet over the center field wall to tie the ball game up 4 all. In the seventh inning JJ Rollon scored the Jags fifth run of the day off a double down the left field line by Justin WileyDorris singled through the left side to send Wiley hoem to give the Jags a 2-run lead. In the ninth inning O'Neill Burgos singled through the left side to send Armstrong home to tie the game up 7 all.

Austin Haensel picks up his first loss of the season. The Jaguars scoring came from Armstrong with two runs. DorrisSpearsLuckettRollon and Wiley with one run each.

Game 2
SU 10 FAMU 2

Christian Davis came up huge for the Jaguars tonight pitch seven complete innings throwing 120 pitches with four strike outs adn only giving up two runs on the night. Tremaine Spears came back to the ball park ready to lead his team to victory picking up five RBI's on the day. 

The Jaguars picked up ten runs off nine hits on the day. In the first inning Spears nailed a fast ball 400 feet over the center field wall to pick up a three-run homer to start the game off with a bang. In the second inning Jaylen Armstrong tripled to the center field wall sending JJ Rollon racing from first base to give the Jags a quick 4-0 lead over the Rattlers. In the fifth inning Hunter Tabb doubled to left center to send Spears home to add another run to the Jags lead, 5-0. In the seventh inning Dorris scored off a sac-fly by SpearsO'Neill Burgos and Taj Porter scored the Jags seventh and eighth run off a double to right center by Hunter Tabb. Then Caleb Tart singled to left field to send Tabb home to close out a four-run inning for he Jags.  In the eighth inning Spears tripled to left field to send Porter hoem to give the Jags theire tenth run of the game.

Davis picks up his third win of the season.  The Jaguars scoring came from Porter with three runs and Spears with two runs. ArmstrongBurgosDorrisRollon and Tabb with one run each.

SU is 29-30, 21-9 SWAC on the season.

Southern will be back in action on Sunday afternoon, as they face Alabama State for the SWAC Champioship and an automatic bid for Regionals in the NCAA Tournament. First pitch is slated for 12:04 PM.
