Prowl of Jaguars Set PRs at LSU

BATON ROUGE, LA – The Jaguars took to the track at the Bernie Moore Track Stadium on the campus of LSU on Saturday and came away with a plethora of times and distances to be excited about.

Logan Lewis and Jazzmine Poole got things started early for the Jaguars in the discus throw. Lewis would finish the meet in seventh with a throw of 43.04m. Poole would settle in for ninth at 40.94m. Char'Vares Wilson was the lone Jaguars inside the top-10 on the men's side with a throw of 39.58m to finish ninth.

The long jump continued to be a strong event for the Jaguars. All three of the athletes who participated on the men's side made it into the top-10. Ja'Carrius Demmerritte was the top Jaguar with a distance of 6.45m for seventh. Kevon Hamilton finished in ninth at 6.33m and Devin Sowell finished in 10th at 6.19m.

Keenan Villery set a personal best of 14.33m in the shot-put to finish in seventh. Wilson got inside the top-10 again, this time with a distance of 13.87m to finish eighth.

Alexandria McCoy was the only Southern athlete to finish inside the top-10 for the hammer throw with a distance of 47.03m for a seventh-place finish. Jazzmine Poole finished with a personal best of 41.61m.

Hamilton was the only person at the meet to compete in the triple jump. With no pressure compete against other competition, he was able to set a personal record of 14.79m. Yahria Bass was the only Lady Jaguar to compete in the triple jump and also set a person best of 11.29m.

The Jaguars sent three athletes to compete in the javelin. Villery, the only man to compete for Southern, set a personal record of 50.64m to finish eighth. On the women's side, Uzuri Graves competed in her first meet and finished eighth with a throw of 33.88m.

The track events got started a couple of hours after the field events but were just as exciting.

Jada Chevalier continues to have a stellar freshman campaign. Chevalier ran a 14.61 in the 100m hurdles to finish in ninth. Sowell finished with a personal best of 15.68 in the men's 110m hurdles.

Three Lady Jaguars set personal best in the 400m. A'nijah Williams set hers with a time of 55.5 to finish sixth. Trinity Kirk finished in 10th with her own time of 55.98. Sitting just outside the top-10 Qymeisha Mayhew was in 11th with her PR of 56.65. On the men's side, Kason Jones finished in ninth with his personal best of 47.52.

Nicholas Scott continued his stellar senior season in the 800m. Winning with a personal best time of 1:49.99, Scott has now won five straight 800m, including the last two at the Battle on the Bayou.

Personal best kept falling as the Jaguars took to the 400m hurdles next. Sierra Session tied her PR with a time of 1:05.00. Both Jordan Thompson and Ta'Cardrick Alexander set personal records to finish inside the top-10. Thompson's time of 53.03 was good enough for a third-place finish, while Alexander had a time of 55.14 to place seventh.

Getting close to the end of the meet, the 200m was up next. Trinity Bolden placed just outside the top-10 but still set a personal record with a time of 24.44. A'niya Galloway also saw her old record fall with a time of 25.17. DeAnthony Nervis set his own personal mark of 21.02 which was good enough for third and only behind two athletes who both broke the meet record. Demmerritte would also narrowly beat his record with a time of 23.09.

The final events of the day, the 4x400, is a strong suit for both the men's and women's teams. The team of Shani Simon, Kirk, Williams and Mayhew took home first with a season best time of 3:47.48. Not to be outdone, the team of Thompson, Jones, Nervis and Scott would continue their stelar campaign setting their own season best time of 3:10.60 to finish third.
