OXFORD, MISS. – With less than a month until the Southwestern Athletic Conference Outdoor Championship, the Southern University Track and Field teams improved their times and distances at the Joe Walker Invitational hosted by the University of Mississippi on April 8 and 9.
In her second event of her Southern career,
Uzuri Graves was looking to build off her first performance of 33.88m in the javelin from last weeks Battle on the Bayou. Even though she came up just short, her distance of 33.54m on her first attempt was good enough for a 10th place finish.
Kevon Hamilton would take to the skies on both Friday and Saturday. His first event, the long jump, did not go as planned. He would only score one jump with a distance of 6.23m, good enough for 10th. He would come back on Saturday and win the triple jump while tying his personal best at 14.79m.
In just her third time at the hammer throw,
A'ja Gore would see her best mark improve to 35.65m.
The only running events for the Jaguars on Friday was the 200m.
Trinity Kirk started her phenomenal weekend by setting a new personal record at 24.84 to finish at 10th. She would end up in the top-10 in three other events on Saturday, the 400m, 4x100 and 4x400.
A'nijah Williams would also set her PR at 25.24. On the men's side, every single Jaguar sprinter would compete for the first time or set their PR.

Lawrenee' Hart would see her three-year-old mark in the shot-put fall by over a half-meter. Her first throw of 13.16m would be here only throw that would count but that was good enough.
Both of the women's relay teams would improve on their season best times.
Kennedy Pedro, Kirk,
A'niya Galloway and
Trinity Bolden would team up in the 4x100. They would come away in third with a time of 46.29.
Shani Simon, Kirk, Williams and
Qymeisha Mayhew would finish fourth in the 4x400 with a time of 3:47.35.
Adding to her already impressive freshman campaign,
Jada Chevalier would have seen all of her best times of her career if not for 100m hurdles being just over the wind legal speed. She would finish that event with a 14.37 to finish second. Her other events, 200m and 100m would see her set her high marks at 26.27 and 12.87.
The women's 400m would be a strong race for the Lady Jaguars. Kirk, Williams and Mayhew would all finish inside the top-10 in consecutive order. Kirk would be the fastest at 56.36 for seventh. She would be followed by Williams (56.39) and Mayhew (56.99) in the standings. Pedro and
Malaysia Sinegal would both set personal best. Pedro would be just outside the top-10 with her time of 57.49, while Sinegal would finish with 58.13.

In a strong field of 50 athletes,
