BATON ROUGE, LA -- The Southern Jaguars women's basketball team gets back in the winning column on Saturday afternoon knocking off Grambling 59-49 in front of 5,267 screaming fans on Alumni Night inside F. G. Clark Activity Center.
It was a heavy weight fight for four quarters with both teams trading score for score until the Jags pulled away in the fourth quarter outscoring the Lady Tigers 20-13 to close out the game.
Junior guard
Genovea Johnson led the Jaguars attack down the stretch finishing with a game-high 22 points, six rebounds, one assist and two steals, all in twenty-eight minutes of play. Nakia Kincey recorded her first double-double of the season grabbing 10 boards and chipping in 11 points along with 3 assists. Diamond Hunter and Tyeniesha Metcalf added six points respectively. Amani Mcwain grabbed seven boards for the Jaguars.
The Lady Jaguars defense forced the Lady Tigers to 22 turnovers, picking up 26 points off turnovers. SU played eleven players with ten landing in the scoring column. Southern shot 35 percent for the game (22-64) and a season low 7 percent from behind the arc (1-14). SU shot 64 percent from the charity stripe finishing (14-22)
The Lady Tigers had two players finish the night in double-digits led by Alexus Holt with 15 points and four rebounds. Baton Rouge native Justice Coleman added 13 points adn two boards.

Southern will be back in action with a two-game home stand against Bethune-Cookman (Feb. 26th) and Florida A&M (Feb. 28th). All games will be streamed live on Jaguar Sports Network. Tip offs are slated for 3 PM on Feb. 26th (Bethune-Cookman) and 5:30 PM on Feb 28th (FAMU).
