HOUSTON, TX -- The Southern Jaguars women's basketball team drops its third straight game on Monday night to Texas Southern dropping to a three-way tie for third place in conference play. Final score from H&PE Arena was 77-87.
Despite having three players in double-digits the Jaguars couldn't pull off the sweep over the Lady Tigers.
Senior
Amani Mcwain finished the day with 18 points, three rebounds, one assist and one steal in a team-high thirty-three minutes of play. Genovea Johnson added 17 points, four boards, and three assists. Jordan Aikens had a career-high eleven points and four rebounds. Tyeniesha Metcalf and Diamond Hunter finished the night with six points repectively.
The Lady Jaguars defense forced the Lady Tigers to 19 turnovers, picking up 18 points off turnovers. SU played eleven players with all eleven landing in the scoring column. Southern shot 45 percent for the game (30-66) and 31 percent from behind the arc (5-16). SU shot 55 percent from the charity stripe finishing (12-22)
The Lady Tigers has four player finish in double-digits led by Andriana Avent with a game-high 32 points, three boards, two assists and two steals. Ataiya Bridges added 20 points and five rebounds. Alisa Knight chipped in 12 points and three. boards. Jada Perry finished with ten points and a game-high 12 boards, all in thirty-three minutes of play.
UP NEXT
Southern will be returning back home for a three-game home stand against Grambling (Feb. 19th), Bethune-Cookman (Feb. 26th) and Florida A&M (Feb. 28th). All games will be streamed live on Jaguar Sports Network. Tip offs are slated for 3 PM on Feb. 19th (Grambling) and 26th (Bethune-Cookman) and 5:30 PM on Feb 28th (FAMU).
