Volleyball Bested by Alcorn

LORMAN, MS – The Southern University Lady Jaguar volleyball team struggled to get anything going against Alcorn on Thursday night and fell in straight sets, 25-15, 25-17 and 25-19.

HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1
  • Southern fell behind early in the set, but four straight points gave them the lead at 6-4.
  • Alcorn followed with their own six-point run to regain the lead 10-6 and force Southern to use their first timeout.
  • The Braves would increase their lead to five at 14-8, but Southern would get three straight to close the gap.
  • Alcorn would finish by outscoring the Lady Jaguars 11-5 to close out the set 25-15.
SET 2
  • Southern would come out swinging in the second set. The Lady Jaguars would hold on to the lead five time, the last being at 10-9.
  • Alcorn would get four straight points to gain the lead at 13-10 and would see their lead grow to 19-13 before Southern would use their first timeout.
  • Southern would not be able to find any momentum and fall in the second set 25-17.
SET 3
  • The Lady Jaguars would once again find themselves in a battle early in the third set. Southern would use a four-point run to take an early lead at 6-3, but Alcorn would use runs of their own to tie things up at 11.
  • After a three-point run by the Braves, Southern would call a timeout down 14-11. The Lady Jaguars would fight their way back, but another five-point run would see the Alcorn lead grow to 22-16.
  • The teams would trade the next three points, giving Alcorn the match win with a 25-19 set three win.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Alcorn held a 38-25 advantage in kills.
  • SU would finish with seven blocks to three by Alcorn.
  • Southern finished with 25 assists, while the Braves had 35.
  • The Lady Jaguars had 27 digs, compared to 39 by Alcorn.
  • Kailee Deffebaugh led the Lady Jaguars will five kills and six blocks.
  • Jordan Felix led with 12 assists.
  • Four Lady Jaguars had at least five digs, led by Trenity Lundy with six.
 
UP NEXT
Southern will take a 10-day break before traveling to Texas for their final two matches of the season. First up, the Lady Jaguars will take on Prairie View A&M on Sunday, November 13 at 2 p.m.
