PRAIRIE VIEW, TX – Southern University found themselves in a five-set battle Sunday afternoon in Prairie View, Texas. Prairie View A&M University would come out with the victory 3-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1
- Prairie View got off to a 6-0 run to open the match. The Lady Jaguars would call their first timeout to stop the run.
- Southern would fight their way back, getting as close as two at 9-7. PVAMU would respond and grow their lead back to 14-8.
- The Lady Jaguars would get back to within three but another run by the Lady Panthers would force them to use their final timeout down 20-14.
- Prairie View would use a timeout after a run by Southern, but the teams would trade service errors to end set one, PVAMU coming out on top 25-19.
SET 2
- Southern would start out the second set with an early lead at 6-1, but PVAMU would come back to get within two at 6-4.
- The Lady Jaguars would go on an 11-3 run to stretch their lead back to 17-9.
- The Lady Panthers would fight back into the set and force Southern to call a timeout up 21-18.
- Jordan Felix would set up Kyla Carrier for a kill, get a kill and a service ace to close out the second set, giving the Lady Jaguars a 25-20 win.
SET 3
- Southern would jump out to another early lead, but PVAMU would fight back to tie it a 9 apiece.
- Prairie View would gain their first lead of the set at 12-11 and Southern would use a timeout. Southern would fight back and force PVAMU to use their time out with the Lady Panthers up 15-14.
- Southern would call their final timeout of the set after a 4-1 run by the Lady Panthers.
- The Lady Jaguars would try to fight their way back but would come up short, losing set three 25-20.
SET 4
- Set four would be a battle from the start, neither team would be able to gain a lead larger than two before PVAMU would get four straight to go up 16-12. Southern would call their first timeout.
- Prairie View would call a timeout after the Lady Jaguars went on a 4-1 run to pull withing three at 21-18.
- The Lady Jaguars would use their final timeout with the score at 22-19. Out of that timeout, they would force PVAMU to use their last timeout when the Lady Jaguars went on a 4-0 run to pull within one at 23-22.
- The Lady Panthers would get match point out of that timeout, but the Lady Jaguars would get the final four points to force a fifth set, 26-24.
SET 5
- The decisive set would continue the battle from the previous set. PVAMU would gain a two point lead multiple times early but the Lady Jaguars would always tie it up.
- The Lady Jaguars would gain their first lead at 8-7 before relinquishing it at 10-9.
- Prairie View would finish out the match on a 5-2 run to take set five 15-11.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- PVAMU held a 64-44 advantage in kills.
- Both teams would finish with nine blocks.
- Southern finished with 35 assists, while the Lady Panthers had 56.
- The Lady Jaguars had 68 digs, compared to 82 by PVAMU.
- Xaria Taylor (11), Akilah Smith (9) and Marian Attaway (8) led the Lady Jaguars in kills.
- Felix had a match high 23 assists.
- Kailee Deffebaugh (6), Smith (4), Felix (4) and Taylor (2) finished with multiple blocks.
- Trenity Lundy (18), Nyah Alexander (12) and Felix (10) all had double-digit digs.
